Comparative browser analysis

I am having a hard time getting used to Android in general, and the built-in browser is still surprising me at every turn (usually not in a good way). I'm not the only new kid here, either. So share your browser experience - what have you used, what did you like and not, what have you settled on?

Thanks!

I usually use the built-in browser as it works well enough for me. I do find the Opera Mini browser faster, though, and it seems to format pages better for the tablet screen.

I use the built-in browser when I'm reading and doing online research because of the integration. Otherwise, I find I keep going back to Opera Mini for the same reasons Boris mentioned. I was using Dolphin, but was finding it a little buggy, although I haven't used it recently so it may be better now. This is the first I've heard of Last Pass. Cheyenne, can you fill me in on any benefits?

I use the built in when I want the "Send to e-ink" feature, and Last Pass when I need my passwords.

aidren, LastPass is a password keeper that integrates into your browser on a laptop. But on Android, instead of working inside your browser, they provide a standalone browser. It's just your regular basic browser, but it will auto-fill (or auto-login, depending on your preferences) on any site where you have to enter a password. LastPass itself is free, but the Android version is only a part of LastPass pro, which is a small annual fee. Well worth it to me, since it provides cross-browser password keeping.

LastPass also has tools like autogenerate a secure password, so really, there are quite a few passwords of mine I don't even know. I use LastPass to generate a string of random characters for a new password, then store it. So obviously browsing password protected sites on the edge would be difficult if I couldn't access these. But of course, then you don't get the option of printing to the e-ink side as a pdf or epub. And, one minor annoyance, very often when you click on a link, you'll be asked which browser you want to open it with, built-in browser or LastPass. So it means a lot of extra clicks. But worth it to access a bunch of passwords I can't possibly commit to memory.

I use Dolphin and love it, particularly the ability to create your own gestures for navigation and other features. I use the native browser only when I"m annotating ebooks and need to attach pages or I need the "Send-to-eink feature.

I use Dolphin and the native browser for the same reasons mentioned in post #7.

Hi, NiaTrue!
Which version of Dolphin does Edge support?

At the same time, I have read recommendations of XScope Lite (ver. 5.34) which runs on Android 1.6, and so far quite a lot of people said it was better even than Dolphin.
Has any of you tried xScope?

Thanks!

Hi Paula:

I'm (scarily) away from my eDGe at the moment, but I'm pretty sure the Dolphin version I'm running is 1.3.2. the latest version available is 2.2, I think, but you need froyo to run it. Still, 1.3.2 suits me just fine. I haven' tried xScope--hadn't heard of it until now--but you might look into Skyfire, which is also popular.

Ah-hah!

I didn't know the native browser was the only one that pushes pages to e-ink. It makes sense when you think about it, but I hadn't!

I installed RoboForm, which apparently acts just the same as Last Pass, giving me the option at every turn to continue with the (native) browser or RoboForm. So far the RF pages are incorrectly formatted, but that might be because I haven't paid for it yet.

Because I am loving the send-to-e-ink feature, I will probably stick with what EnTourage gave me, although I will certainly use one of the password managers as well, so I'll continue with the extra clicks.

I had tried several different browsers, but the "option at every turn to continue" really drove me nuts, so I got rid of all of them except the one enTourage gave me - also, I really like the send-to-e-ink feature.
