Cheyennedonna recommended LogMeIn for Android in another thread.
I've tried out this app and I think it's terrific. LogMeIn is a system whereby you can remotely access the desktop of a PC/Mac from another PC/Mac or Android device. The free version basically just allows the remote desktop access while the paid version allows you to transfer files, remotely print to the hosting PC/Mac, and some other interesting things (see https://secure.logmein.com/US/compar...arisonFPP.aspx for a comparison of free vs pro). See the "Product Tour" tab on https://secure.logmein.com/US/produc...ition/android/ for details of the Android client application. There are two pieces of software you have to install. First, you install the LogMeIn software on the PC/Mac that is to be remotely controlled (the "host"): https://secure.logmein.com/US/products/free/ (click the "Download Now" button). You'll need to set up a free account, and click the link in the verification email that gets sent. Once you have the host software installed, you'll need to buy the "LogMeIn Ignition for Android" Android app (the "client") from the Google Market on an Android phone and transfer the APK installation file to your eDGe. Install the app on your eDGe and run it and log in with the account credentials you set up. You can then connect to the PC/Mac host. The things I like about this app over the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection app I previously used are: - LogMeIn doesn't require any changes to your firewall (as it uses the LogMeIn servers as the intermediary for the communication link between host and client) - it doesn't automatically change the resolution of your host PC/Mac (although I think you can force it to) - the "host" software on the PC/Mac can also be used to remotely control another host PC/Mac It also looks great on the (full-sized) eDGe with easy pan & zoom control (especially if you rotate the LCD screen 90 degrees). People should keep in mind the security implications of routing the communication link through a third party server, even if that link is encrypted. In any case, I recommend disabling the LogMeIn host software when you don't need it on (which is easily done via the LogMeIn app that's installed). I'd be interested to hear other people's experience with LogMeIn. |

- 'Free' edition user for several years. Several accounts, multi hours per week. Performs as advertised. Very stable. Auto-updates, etc.
- Have 'Ignition' installed on phone for emergency's and reading desktop files. Don't have to carry netbook or eDGe for that purpose now. - Anticipate that 'Ignition' will be first app installed on my Pocket eDGe. (To be purchased after 'update' and forum reviews.) FWIW: A very satisfied user's review. |

Yes, just a paid version of the Android side of things. There's a free "lite" version for the PC/Mac side.

If it's not free, wouldn't that make it copy-protected and therefore you would not be able to back up and transfer the apk to the eDGe?
Aside from that though, I too am a LONG time user of LogMeIn Free for my home PC. One of my favorite programs. I did the beta test on Ignition with the eDGe and it does work. |

Just FYI, I contacted the company, and they cannot send the apk to anyone via email or by any other method. As such, if you don't have an Android phone or an emulator (?) you're out of luck for right now.
