And now for something new
I am wondering if something can be accomplished on the eDGes.
Flip the eDGe open, all the way so that the screens are back to back. Have something on the LCD screen, while something else related is on the Reader screen. Be able to change this (simultaneously on both screens) with the click of a button. So, for instance, if I want to work on flash cards. The LCD screen can present "8 x 4 = ?" and the Reader screen can present "32" or "8 x 4 = 32" or somesuch. But it would have to be quickly switched (simultaneously) to the next card with the click of a button. How possible is that? |

It's quite possible since there's only one system that merely has two screens. If you're reading a book on the Reader and tap the "I" (info) icon at the top of the reader, the LCD side shows the Table of Contents which stays in sync with where you are in the book. This isn't really any different from what you're proposing.
An ingenious idea for a flash card application ![]() |

Furthering the concept, I am thinking of a few different areas other than math. 1. foreign language cards - word written in, say, Japanese (ok... picture of word) on LCD and pronunciation on Reader side. I want to flip through 5-10 at a time, fairly quickly to teach. 2. General sight word reading - same word on both sides... same idea of flipping through 5-10 fairly quickly. 3. Math number values - numeral on Reader side, value on the other ( "5" on Reader, Picture of 5 stars on LCD)... same thing with flip though. Generally, I'd have to create these myself. I'd also like the option to change info on the reader side... for instance, let's say I have a picture of a purple iris on LCD and I have the word "iris" on the Reader side... but after the name of the item is taught, I want to teach information about the item... facts. Or perhaps I want to flip through a bunch of flowers named in english, but then later name them in Spanish. Any ideas on how to get this going? Oh yeah, and speak slowly with one-syllable words, please. |

You can't do this yourself

Wanted to add that this idea could also be used for kids reading books with words on one side and illustration in color on the other. Even cooler still would be an illustrative video. And not even just kids... but textbooks too.

Such an app can't be written yet, anyway. enTourage has to release information for developers on how to write apps for the eInk side. They're awful busy with the Android 2.2 updates, so don't hold your breath

Should I, in the meantime, create files in anticipation (since they will take as long to finish as the app will to get to) or do you think this idea you label ingenius (me-not so sure) will be overlooked?

I recommend you use existing flash card applications available today for the LCD side. Once you hear that enTourage has released the "SDK", then you can post a new thread asking for someone to build your app.
Meanwhile, look at http://www.entourageedge.com/forums/...ther-platforms for one that forum users seem to really like. |

I have an idea. I don't think it will be as fast as you would like but it should work. Create a pdf or epub of the things you want on the e-ink side then use the attach feature to attach the items you want for the other side to your pdf/epub. You'll have to make sure the stuff for the tablet side will only open on the tablet (webpages, pictures, word docs, etc.). You'll have to click the link with the stylus and wait for the item to open. Again, it's probably going to be slower than you'd like and I'm not sure how all the links to the tablet side respond but webpage links are pretty quick so I can see a tangible workaround for now.
