Pocket Edge Video Review - Unfortunately in Dutch

http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20...et-edge-video/

Now the landscape rotation on eInk becomes crucial. Based on my experience with my IREX 800 (8"), most academic articles are simply unpleasant to readable in the portrait mode, and the double column ones are unreadable. If the market for the pocket edge is education - here is hoping for an update very soon (I am assuming the same software for both versions of edge).

Excellent scoop, sordie!

My observations:
- I'm very much liking the size
- the review was using the Dingo 1.0 release (we're up to 1.1)
- the review wasn't showing Android 2.2 (this could be an early demo unit, hopefully the shipping version will have 2.2, or get it within a week or two)
- boot up seemed faster than the fullsize eDGe (mind you, some say 1.1 is slower to boot)
- the eInk side looks fine for reading ePUBs (as is the 6" Kindle and other small readers), but PDFs will be difficult if you can't PDF Reflow and/or read in landscape

I think the full-size eDGe will be for students/professionals (mainly for PDFs and the large writing area) while the Pocket eDGe will be not so much for students as for the average joe who wants an ereader and a netbook in one convenient package. I think the Pocket eDGe may also be an easy jump from the Kindle/Nook/etc. for shoppers looking for an ereader, in that for the same size but a bit more weight they also get a 7" tablet which are currently all the rage (sort of the same argument we've been making for the eDGe, but now the weight has been halved or more).

As an 'average joe', who no longer carries a briefcase/backpack, I find the non-phone, 1.6, eDGe to be an in-convenient traveling companion because of size and version. (This is after months of constant 'on-the-job' use that took advantage of all its capabilities.)

Currently it is on the computer desk as 'the scratch pad/note taker'. Because of the eDGe I switched phones to Android 2.1 and am seriously content... except for the 'size'. Earlier discussion of a 5" or 6"
held no interest.

A 7", V2.2 eDGe would be an 'old Joe's' ideal Christmas present. I'd make sure he received one.

My apologies to borisb.... I seem to ride on your posts.
