Possible explanation for no Marketplace access?

According to this article: http://fastflip.googlelabs.com/view?...ews&type=embed

it looks like Google isn't going to bother with Marketplace access for tablets running less than Android 3.0 (generally speaking....some companies are getting around this by making their tablets just a large phone). So, will the eDGe (particularly the G1) even be capable of running Android 3.0 and beyond?
Wondering.....

Unless Android 3.0 has special hardware requirements (like Windows Mobile often does for each new version, it seems), there's no reason not to believe the first generation eDGe will be able to run Android 3.0 (Gingerbread).

We can speculate and hope......it would be nice to hear what Entourage has in the plans though.

It gives me the feeling (hope I am wrong) that we are in some sort of expensive self-paid experiment. If we want 3G or Google aps, it will be necessary to buy a future version of the Edge, or another brand device.

That would explain why they continually work to stymie any attempt on the part of independent developers to extend the capabilities of the current Edge. Thus far the only concession they've made to developers has been releasing GPL-based source code, and that was only done after discussion of legal remedies...and after jcase figured out how to enable debugging on the device, they killed that functionality with the Dingo update, giving some lame excuse about how they didn't want to scare away developers who want to sell their apps on the Entourage store (you know, the store that has no payment processing capabilities).
