Can't type tilde
I have tried two external keyboards. I'm trying to type '~', which isn't an uncommon character in URL's. The Edge is treating it like a shift or something similar. The cursor changes shape slightly when I do the normal Shift-'`' and the next character I type is upper case. My locale is set to English (US) and I didn't see any other relevant keyboard preferences. I didn't see the tilde in the on screen keyboard and wouldn't want to have to jump to it to type a tilde anyway. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Noah,
I duplicated your problem and was unable to input a Tilda using an external keyboard, even though you can input a Tilda using the Android keyboard. I spoke to the devs about it and they will implement a fix for it, hopefully in our next software release. As a work around for now, to input a Tilda using the on screen Android keyboard do the following: 1. Pull up the Android keyboard if it is not already up by holding down the Menu button. 2. Select button to switch to the numbers keyboard view (the button in the lower left corner of the keyboard that is labeled "?123"). 3. Press Alt and you will then see the Tilda key on the top left corner of the keyboard. |

Thank you for the quick response. Maybe my settings are wrong. With the dialog for typing an URL in (aka Go dialog) open and selected, pressing and holding the menu button has no effect if the external keyboard is not first unplugged. Is there a way to get the android keyboard to come up without unplugging the external keyboard?

Hi Noah,
I apologize if my previous post was misleading - the instructions provided were for when there is no external keyboard connected to the eDGe. As of right now, I believe that when you have an external keyboard connected to the eDGe you cannot bring up the Android keyboard. Tomorrow at the office I will verify this with our SQA team. Good news though, one of the developers told me today that they have already added in a fix that will allow for the input of a Tilda from an external keyboard, and this fix will be in our next software release. |
