Needed: CHM ebook reader
CHM is a 'compiled HTML help' file format, sometimes used for e-books.
I have a few CHM format e-books I am trying to read on EE. Anyone know of a good app for this? |

I found this http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/org....o.android.chm/
and Calibre can convert a CHM to epub or pdf. |

Thanks.
I tried the app you mention but could not transfer to edge since it's private and does not back up. I tried Calibre but the conversion for books was not good. |

Sometimes a developer will send you the apk to a private, free app. Try contacting them by email, I have received several that way.
Or try here http://ireader.over-blog.com/ext/htt....com/p/ireader You can download iReader directly from this link. Last edited by cheyennedonna; 08-28-2010 at 06:16 PM. |

So I tried iReader but it is not very good in opening large CHM files (I get 404 file not found error). Calibre was also not too helpful since conversion to epub/pdf, since the converted files were not readable (contained garbled text). I did try several files.
Finally I figured out a way around it. There is a simple windows program called chmdecoder (http://www.gridinsoft.com/chm.php). It converts CHM files into HTML file format. I transferred the files to edge. However, you need the Astro file manager app in your edge to open the local HTML files (when prompted I used Dolphin browser). I tried a few books and it works well. |

I've been using the 'Android CHM EBook Reader' on my G1. The author was kind enough to email me the APK file, which loaded and works wonderfully on the eDGe. The app has a free version (which is what he sent me) and a paid version. It's written by HYStudio. I have asked him to submit it to the Entourage Market and he said he would do so. Hopefully it is put in the Market. I've been using the app daily since I loaded it and it hasn't given me an bit of issue. Runs full screen and handles everything great.
I do use Calibre. Absolutly love it, but it's nice to run the CHM native. Conversion sometimes does some wierd things. |

The enTourage App Store just added the HYReader app that is a CHM file reader: http://www.entourageedge.com/apps.html. Access the Store via the Library on your eDGe to install it.

I installed the chm reader app. But I can't get to my CHM files on the sd card via this app. Do I have to save it in specific location to open them????

I checked the app and it's basically locked to using the internal storage. So, use the Library to copy files from SD Card to Internal Storage - Documents (for example), and then in HYReader you'll find them in the "documents" folder.
