Since we have no root for device, the main advantage for adroid 2.2 will be automated android update. So we will not needed to wait for enTourage updates any longer. We will always have latest updates from google-android.
Also I really hope that camera+bluetooth+battery+flash will work in next release (as promised by enTourage), but I'm afraid that it will be released no faster than in june ( 'cos adobe will present flash for android only in june. There's buzz that beta release is allready awailable to developers, but I wasn't able to get confirmation from developers).

I don't think we'd want automatic updates of Android from outside Entourage. The Edge has extensions to the system to handle the eInk screen and a stock Android update will likely render those features unusable. In effect, turning the Edge into merely a crippled phone-like tablet without the phone functions. (Hmmm. Something like the iPad )

borisb, that's exactly what I was thinking. I look forward to some 2.x updates for reasons listed above and maybe a few more but am curious how the updates will go.

Yep! There are reports of a 400% speed boost because they are going to use a JIT compiler for the code on the phone. Wow. It would be really cool if we could get 2.2 on the eDGe... so many issues would be solved.

But, enTourage has probably been working on the software on a 2.1 base. Oh well, there's always the release after that...

No reasons for worry about automatic updates. Android is like an APPLICATION which runs on top of linux kernel, so updates in 2.2 will not change the core functional of the device. The mission of updates to improve compability of different apps. (so there's will be no problem with e-ink display which is another separated proccess)

And as I see 2.2 is the only version which will support flash. So if you want to browse flash web sites -- vote for 2.2

Seems VERY promising.

2.2 is 450% times faster than 2.1 !!
