Problems I've had in doing some basic functions
I wrote borisb with some questions because I figure I was being more than ordinarily obtuse:
First, I have been unable to attach tags to any file not in the library. Can I do this? I would like to very much. Second, how can I search through my sd card? I wanted to find a certain pdf file but could find no way except scrolling through the hundreds of other pdf files on there. Third, if I can't add tags to non-library files, can I copy the library pdfs to the sd card or usb drive? I see an export option, would this work? I'm not adding anything other than tags - no annotations. Fourth, is there anyway on the eDGe to add folders to the sd card and usb drives? Here is his reponse: First: no, this isn't possible. Second: no, there isn't (that I've found) Third: Export puts a copy of the PDF to the SD card. At that point you have two (unconnected) copies of the file - one in each location (i.e., the same if you copy a file on your PC to another folder). Fourth: Apparently not (I had to check to see . For your second and fourth need, you can install the EStrong File Explorer app (http://www.estrongs.com/fex13.html) which will give you a file/folder manager you can perform these functions. This is an amazing app and I like it very much. These are all very good questions, and would have helped other users who are wondering the same, if you had posted them in General Help I decided that I'd like some features because of these, so I'm posting in the Feature Requests thread. 1. As stated by others, make the library extend to storage devices (USB, SD cards). This would take care of the tags question, as well as others. 2. I'd like to be able to search effectively and make folders without a 3rd party app. |

I think the point of being "in the library" is what distinguishes ordinary files from files that can be indexed and searched. I wouldn't want every file indexed, labeled, and searched. What I would prefer is that "in the library" didn't have to mean "copied into internal memory". If the library keeps full pathnames to files it should be able to find files on the external SD card. If a file moves then the library could prompt to try to relocate it or remove it from the library lookup.

Yes, but I want tags for all of my files, like the user manual implies but it looks like only files in the library can have tags. I haven't yet annotated any files and most of my pdfs are not searchable anyhow because they are image files, so some of the features of being in the library aren't terribly useful to me on many of my files (I hope to use annotations on a few files, but not most). I'm not thinking all files would be instantly in the library, any more than files in internal memory are instantly in the library. I'd be happier to have tags without being in the library, but don't know how feasible that is.
Maybe add tags to non-library files as a feature request? And keep having the library be able to access the external storage - but not having every file in the library? |

I would like to be able to do these things as well. I have over 7000 pdfs to deal with and can only fit a small fraction of that using the internal memory.

7K!!!! Wow! I bet you want some better tools for using, searching, etc. I'm annoyed with under 1K - I think. That's another thing I'd like, how many files are on the sd card, for example. I haven't taken out the sd card from the eDGe yet, so I don't know how many files are on it. Just how much space they take up. And, my files range from 500K to 90MB, so I have no idea how many I've squirreled away so far.
Yeah, I'm lazy :-) |
