Good idea posting this one! I was just thinking about this...I hate having a useless item on a device thar I can't use, namely, the SIM slot. Although enTourage has said that the are going to use it for non-3G related purposes...any idea what that could be?

No

90% of the places I would take my eDGe have wifi. If they don't I have plenty of content on the device. If I forget something I can easily find wifi within a mile of where I am pretty much anywhere and get what I need. There are so many places with wifi. Find any coffee shop and you can get it. Heck even McDonalds in the US has wifi and that is going to be free soon. So put me in the no column.

With the iPad I can see certain instances where it would be nice but my iPhone or any other SmartPhone can fill that gap.

Allow tethering and well you have solved the problem.

3g could be useful sometimes!!!

In the Edge there is a place to put a sim card, however I think that it is just for a fabrication standard aim for future model. It seems that it will never work on our current model. So if the slot is available it is a pity that it won't never work.
However for me, the wifi is enough especially when we see 3g costs.

I would be interested in a gps sim card, if that is even something possible. Especially if it connected to Google Maps and talked ; -)

So far, that's the only thing I've thought of for the slot. But I don't even know if it is something that a sim card can do.
