John Grisham / Mary Higgins Clark Books
Throwing this out there to see what sticks...
I recently got my mom into eReading and I try to keep her in a steady supply of books she'll like. Problem is, our reading tastes are totally different, so I have a bit of a difficulty ferreting out new books for her. She really like John Grisham books and Mary Higgins Clark mysteries. She hates sex scenes and swear words. Can anyone recommend any good free eBooks that might fit in those categories? If she likes the author, I'll happily buy more for her, but I'd like to find some freebies to start her on until I get a better feel for her tastes. Much thanks to anyone who responds. ![]() |

This book isn't free, but I recently read Silent Counsel by Ken Isaacson and found it a very engrossing legal thriller. It's $1.99 for the Nook. There were a few swear words (but they were understandable considering what the characters were going through). The book had twists and turns that kept me guessing. If your mom enjoys Grisham, she might like this one.

Try the Literature Map site here http://www.literature-map.com/
You enter an author's name (ex John Grisham) and hit return. A new page opens with Grisham's name in the center and a variety of author's arrayed around him. The closer to Grisham another author's name is, the more like Grisham they are. |

Cool!
And yet.... the closest thing to Mary Higgins Clark is.... Danielle Steel? *cough* I... uh... don't think that's right. ![]() ALSO: Anne Rice and J.K. Rowling are on the list for John Grisham????!?!?!?!?!? Methinks this baby is very beta. ![]() |

Right now, I can't think of any free novels that would fit, but, if she likes Mary Higgins Clark mysteries, has she tried the daughter, Carol Higgins Clark? They have written together for years and the daughter writes with a bit of humor in her own mystery series.

Back when I was devouring both authors like my life depended on it I was also really into Stephen White's Dr. Alan Gregory series.
ETA: Can't help with the free part though ![]() |

Johnathan Kellerman is a decent read. No sex or cursing.
Preston & Child is clean also but the subject matter varies. These aren't free, though. Have you looked in the "Deals" forum for some free indies? Just thought of the Cat Who series by Braun. Last edited by Fbone; 06-12-2011 at 05:30 AM. |

Go for the Joanne Fluke murder mysteries. They are nice cozy mysteries based in a small town. Not violent. Not sexual. And no swearing. There are 17 stories.

S.J. Rozan's Bill Smith/Lydia Chin series - first book is "China Trade"
Julia Spencer-Fleming's Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne series - first book is "In The Bleak Midwinter" Don't know how similar they are to Grisham and Clarke because I don't read those two, but they should fit the bill re the lack of sex and swearing. |
