Replaced 2 Jetbook Batterys.

Both my wife and my original jetbook's were over a year and a half old. Both giving us half or less of the original 20 hours of use on a charge. Both were getting slow, slower loading book, slower turning page, slower on everything.

So I took the plunge and ordered replacement battery and installed it.

Install was pretty straight forward, pull the rubber dots out of the 4 screw holes with a pin, remove 4 screws (tiny phillips) Then starting at the end opposite from the usb plug unsnap the sides all the way around. (small flat screwdriver or similar tool will work, take your time here, doesn't require huge amount of force, just a little in the right spot.)

Unplug old battery, plug in new one, and reverse the process.

Wow
Back to 20 hours of use, and everything is just like when it was new, quick, crisp.

We bought ours from Ebay, 19:95 $ and free shipping.

So for 20 bucks our jetbooks just "turned back the clock" truly its like having a new one again. So don't be afraid to try.

You can DO it!

I don't browse the forums much here lately so if you have questions

Old batteries can't make a Jetbook run slower. It's controlled by a crystal oscillator. An old battery will only reduce the total run time between charges, or be so far gone as to not allow the device to run at all.

Small plastic tool I'm sure would be best, I used a small flat screwdriver, started at the lanyard opening and worked both ways.

As to the other, what can I say, both books are now opening books and turning pages in half the time required before.

Perhaps the full reboot, caused by disconnecting the power when the battery was changed, is what sped it up. Using the power switch just puts the unit in sleep mode. There could be memory leaks and other firmware problems that cause it to slow down over time.

Did you ever try using the reset button on the back to do a full reboot, before changing the battery?

Hi,

Thanks for the question. I would try a master reset, take the batteries out and leave them out for at least 10 minutes and then replace them and reset.

if that does not work then you should try a firmware update. The diagnostics screen is usually a last resort before the firmware update but you tried that already.

Hope this helps!
