WYSIWYG and incorporated font
Hi
I have had recently trouble viewing correctly EPUBs with embedded fonts. Here the font used for the EPUB is Linux Libertine. Here are two screenshots of the same file. - The apparently good one is from Sigil 0.24 Linux portable - The other is from Sigil 0.4 beta Windows using Wine EPUB is in the attachment Any explanations? How do you view it? Nota: the file is "heavy" because for this file I did not use "light" web-fonts but average ttf. Last edited by roger64; 05-18-2011 at 01:48 AM. Reason: embedded is the right word |

Actually, you have wrong references. The font names in the stylesheet are different from the files actually in the fonts folder...
If you change the font names and the relative directory path to them, it should work. Last edited by Toxaris; 05-18-2011 at 01:54 AM. |

I come back on the original subject.
From what I can see, I have a problem with Sigil 0.4.0 beta and embedded fonts. If I try to make a minor change in one EPUB with embedded font, I get very quickly a faulty display. It looks like I have one unstable mix, easily disrupted. It's to the point now, that I consistently avoid using Sigil 0.4. beta for tweaking any EPUB with embedded font. However, this does not happen with Sigil 0.24 Linux portable. Please, have a try. Here is one EPUB which looks fine. It uses Linux Libertine web-fonts, drop caps and true small capitals. Look at it first, and then make some minor changes in the stylesheets, save, then reverse them, and you'll probably get also a faulty display. I can't explain what happens, but after so many display problems of this kind, for the time being I'll stick to Sigil 0.24 Last edited by roger64; 05-18-2011 at 03:29 PM. |

It seems my previous mistake killed my credibility. Well...
![]() This is a plain and basic way to reproduce this faulty display (though, I'm sure it's NOT the only one) Open the above EPUB with Sigil 0.4 beta. Open the style sheet named styles1.css Suppress the last item (about p { text-align:justify; }) Save and close the EPUB Open again: here is the faulty display. This happens with the button Html Tidy on and off. Last edited by roger64; 05-19-2011 at 01:02 AM. |

If this is so, it must be unique to Linux; I am unable to get the "faulty display" to occur following your instructions; when I delete the paragraph alignment, nothing happens.

Thanks for trying.
![]() It seems it's a Wine problem. I used the Windows version of Sigil with Wine. After every save, the display went wrong on resume when I used EPUBs with embedded fonts. When I use EPUBs without embedded fonts, nearly everything was normal. Well, this version has now been deleted. I realized that the Linux version is no more the monster it once was (now 15 megs against 50 for the 0.34), so there is even no need for a portable version. Just curious, why do you use the windows version with Wine instead of just the Linux version?

Furthermore you know very quickly if it's working or not. It's new for me to suffer this kind of pesky problems. Why to use Wine with Sigil? Now, I agree there is no good reason. But, till the 22 of April this year, the Linux version was quite huge because it installed the full Qt gear. So, I kept using an old portable 0.24 Linux version. I wanted to test a new one and chose the new small-sized Windows version. I just came to realize (I had given up hope) that now the Linux version size is close to the Windows version size , which, for me, makes it much more attractive and clears any hurdle. http://code.google.com/p/sigil/downloads/list Last edited by roger64; 05-20-2011 at 03:23 AM. |
