Basic Download Help Needed

After reading the pre-loaded Pride and Prejudice (loved it) on my new Sony, I did successfully purchase my first e-book and discovered the thrill of reading something I really wanted to read without losing an inch of real estate on my overflowing bookshelves!

Now I’m attempting to download an e-book for the first time here on our site and not sure what I’m doing incorrectly. I downloaded the file to my desktop – it was a “read me” file with another link to download the book (The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie). Did that and have a zipped icon on my desktop with three files in it: META-INF, OEBPS, and mimetype. I dragged the whole thing onto my PRS-350 and it shows that it’s there; however, when I disconnect from my PC it doesn’t show up in my books. Should I only be dragging one of these files? Do I need to go through the Reader Library or Calibre? Your help appreciated!

The problem is that MSIE is being stupid. The eBook has a .epub file extension and MSIE sometimes changes the extension to .zip. So rename the file so it no longer has .zip, but .epub.

Next, get Firefox and never look back at MSIE. Firefox won't mess with your ePub.

Great you enjoy your reader and your books! Maybe you want to try to download a book in lrf-format to compare the font sizes. I find them to be better scaled than the epub sizes.

Thanks for both replies! JSWolf -- I couldn't see any extensions on the file names, so I skipped to step 2 and downloaded Firefox. (Yeah, I'm the guy in the room who still has an AOL e-mail address.) Much better browser, much faster and you were right, MSIE was the problem downloading/transferring the book. A breeze with Firefox. Just one problem....when I turned on my PC this morning, I got the blue screen and an auto recovery setting me back to before I added Firefox. Boy, MS really has some betrayal issues! I googled and saw I was not alone in this scenario, but still haven't quite figured out how they got around it.

Poppaea -- interesting about lrf, had kind of thought it was an outdated format. So I'm glad you brought it up and will definitely check it out on my next download!

What I do is remove the DRM from the ePub if need be and make sure the font size is what I want and then I can just leave it on S and be happy reading.
