It would be nice if the calibre web site listed some such hash sums - so you could check the downloaded file was identical to the one on the web site.

The Google code page, which, I believe, supplies the official main download location, has a SHA1 checksum.

You suspect someone is tampering with your Calibre updates?

There are only the 2 official locations that should be used (for desktop).
while the Linux Repository versions are safe, they are sadly out of date

because of the warp speed

of Calibre development .

The checksum is used to check if the downloaded file has any errors.
