I've been Nootered!!
I finally decided to take the jump and root the 2.1 with the Manual Nooter and see how that went. I've had problems in the past, but keep on trying.
Today I actually had it right I guess. I was able to install the market apps I wanted with no problem, still not sure how to side load apps, but I don't really need to do that right now. So I'm using the B&N OS, but Aldiko as the reader as I can just download them from my cloud without connecting to a computer that way. Using the OC Kernel and am getting decent battery life Can access the B&N Store etc. Best of both worlds!! My Quadrant score is about 1721, which I hear is great, now have my Nook the way I want! |

Sounds like you are satisfied. I tried an sd-card Gingerbread root that worked well, but the resulting display had such small icons that it was not usable by someone with poor vision, so I removed the card. Glad you are happy.
Hate to sound ignorant, but what is a "Quadrant Score"? |

Was it c m 7 that you tried?
The quadrant score is a benchmark test. I just upload the score and compare is it among other tablet slash phone type devices. |

Yes, it was CM7. It was all sd card based so removing the card left an un-modified NC.
My main problem with the NC was that it would not properly display epub books that had been converted from the fb2 format and had Cyrillic fonts. The 1.1 version displayed only ? marks and the 1.2 version displayed only squares. Of course the soft-rooted NC supported readers like fb2Reader and Moon+ readers that did not have that problem. But the issue was the very small size of the icons, almost too small to see if you have bad eyes. |
