Happy with both
Well, it's summer again, and I'm very glad I kept my Nook Classic.
I sucumbed to the siren song of the Nook Color right after Christmas - that beautiful screen! A solid browser! Read in the dark! But, in a rare display (for me, at least) of foresight, I kept my Classic. Who knows? Maybe the kids will use it. Now summer, with all of its outdoor activities, is back again. Sitting by the pool, going to Lacrosse games, visiting the beach - all of these are pleasant with e-ink, and a glaring failure with LCD. Now, though, it's the best of both worlds - Classic and Color. The only downsides are carrying both (when the situation warrants) and remembering which page I'm on. So keep (or get) that e-ink device - the new Nook STR looks nice. But don't ditch the LCD. Winter's dreary skies aren't far off. ![]() |

Totally agree with you. I sold my classic when the NC came out. I am very happy with my NC, but during Memorial Day weekend I tried reading outdoors and it was a pain. I saw that B&N was coming out with the Touch and I immediately got one. Very happy with it so far. Now I have my NC for magazines, web browsing, children's books (not for me, for my 4 year old) and my Touch for reading novels by the window or outside. Don't regret selling the classic because I like the Touch so much better and it came out at the perfect time for summer reading.
I carry both everywhere. Thank goodness for tote bags!!! And yes you do have to remember which page you are on, because the syncing feature sucks, but I see myself doing most of my reading on the Touch, for now |

can't agree more, I love reading outdoors in the morning with a cup of coffee or latter on in the day with either a beer or glass of wine.
The two are like peanut butter and jelly. |

Great minds think alike. I bought the NC and I love reading it at night/indoor. But with the sun out now, the Classic is serving me well (although STR is very tempting).

Forgot to mention that last night I was lying in bed with the Touch reading a novel while my 4 year old was on the NC listening to The Cat in the Hat. I looked at her and I realized I made a good choice purchasing the Touch because now both of us can spend time reading side by side. I know that sounds very emotional, but I am seeing the advantages of having both devices.

Did anyone get the 1.6 update for your N1E? If you haven't, wait. It has the unfortunate side effect of making the mini SD card unreadable to the Nook. It doesn't damage the data on the card...the N1E just can't access it.

I think it is better because of the touch screen. It has all the features of the classic, but it its easier to navigate. It does not have 3G, just WiFi, but that is enough for me. The touchscreen makes it so much easier to look up words in the dictionary, highlight, take notes, follow links. It is also faster so scanning through pages of a book, your library, the B&N shop is smoother. It focuses on reading, no so games, browser, music, that the classic has. But if you have the NC, you got that covered anyway. I think it complements my NC nicely for when I want to focus on reading.
