calibre list of drm free e-books
calibre is compiling a list of drm free books from various sources. I am doing this in my free time so its going to proceed slowly but we have got a start on it. Once we have a sizeable number of e-books on our list (few 100) we will link to it from the calibre website or embed it there.
Anyway for those of you who write/publish DRM free books, we would like to include you on our list. Please pm if you are interested. The website with about 50 books on it has been set up and is available at http://drmfree.calibre-ebook.com/ |

A wonderful initiative, Krittika. We're already on board, as you know. Hope all's going well with the scheme. Best wishes to you and Kovid. Neil

I have included drm free e-books published on smashwords by some of you who posted on this thread on http://drmfree.calibre-ebook.com/ . Please feel free to check it out and let me know if you disagree with anything.

Hi Krittica -- I think it's a great idea, and I'd like to be included in your list of authors of speculative fiction. I have a number of self-repubbed backlist titles up at Smashwords, Kindle, Nook, and elsewhere -- all DRM-free. (My SW author page is at https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/starrigger.) A number of my other backlist titles are available DRM-free from Webscription.net (http://www.webscription.net/p-1074-e...-readscom.aspx) and Fictionwise (http://www.fictionwise.com/ebooks/a1...rey-A-Carver/?).
The Kindle and Nook editions were formatted in Calibre, by the way. ![]() Oh--just to be clear, there are also Kindle and Nook books of mine that are, unfortunately, not DRM-free, because it was out of my hands. But the list at SW mirrors books that are DRM-free at Kindle and Nook. Last edited by starrigger; 01-26-2011 at 12:41 AM. |

I added the ones you have on smashwords. You can look to see if you agree with everything there. I'll be happy to make any corrections. Just to be clear, are all the 11 books on the baen site DRM free?
As a matter of interest, I have not been able to figure out if Baen carries only DRM free books or a combination of DRMed and DRM free ones. Do you know? I am glad you found calibre useful ![]() |

Yes, all of my books at Baen are DRM-free. I actually asked them to take down books 2-3 of the Chaos series from the Free Library, since they seemed to be detracting from sales; I thought they had, but maybe they got confused and put them up again. (Best you don't list the Chaos books at Baen.)
As far as I know, all books at Baen are DRM-free, yes. As are all books in the Multiformat section at Fictionwise. |

P.S. The listings at SW are correct, though I don't think SW is the best source to quote for reviews. There are far more extensive reviews of my books at Amazon.
The book called The Chaos Chronicles should really be titled The Chaos Chronicles: Books 1-3. There are currently four books in the series, and the fifth being written. (But #4, Sunborn, is a Tor book and unfortunately not DRM-free.) For Eternity's End, you could say Star Rigger under series. It's not a numbered series, but books in a common background called the Star Rigger universe. |

just curious.. why isn't there a star rigger 5? oops missed some of the stuff on your previous post. is eternity's end star rigger 5 then? I can remove the rating colum if you want. I understand that the reviews are by very few people for these books on smashwords and could be skewed.

I took the numbering of the star rigger series from fictionwise. Let me know if you want it changed.

We're getting there, but still a few more changes needed. Let's see...
Yes, Eternity's End is Star Rigger #5, though that's misleading, as it stands alone within the series and is a perfectly good place to start reading. But I guess the simplest thing is just to call it #5. The books at Webscription are all priced at $6.00. Yes, I know it says "sale," but they've always been $6 there and as far as I know always will be. The Chaos Chronicles should be titled The Chaos Chronicles: Books 1-3. It should not say "complete series," but rather "first 3 of series" or something like that. I don't want people to think they're buying an entire series, when what they're really getting is an omnibus of the first half of what will eventually be a 6-book series. I like the listing of an alternate store for the Baen/Fictionwise selections. You could do a similar thing for the books that are at Smashwords. Their alternate stores would not be fictionwise, but rather Kindle / Nook in DRM-free editions. (If you go to http://www.starrigger.net/Downloads.htm, you'll find all the links.) Oh hey, I forgot--you could also list Battlestar Galactica (novelization), which is both free and DRM-free from my website. You'll see it on the same page. Thanks so much for doing this. I feel like I'm creating a lot of work for you. I appreciate it. |

Yes a brilliant initiative.
Now, I wonder if there is scope for a listing of Geographically-Free books, too? |
