I'm having problems with ADE. It keeps looking for a library book that I've already returned. I've returned the book, then gone into the My Digital Editions folder, deleted the book itself and the annotation file, but ADE still keeps looking for it when I start the application. What else do I need to delete so that this stops happening? There's obviously still some digital residue somewhere that I'm missing... (This has only happened with this one particular book. I've checked out and returned other library books without this problem.)

What you did was only half correct and it was the second half.
What you need to do is delete the eBook in ADE and then ADE will no longer have it in its database. After that, you can then delete the physical file from your ADE eBook directory. Don't forget the thumbnail. |

The book isn't even in ADE anymore. It disappeared when I "returned" it to the library. So there's nothing to delete... but ADE still keeps looking for it. Every time I start ADE I get the following message:
No record for this loan is found on this machine, it may have been returned. I've deleted the thumbnail, the annotation, and the copies that were still in the My Digital Editions folder. But ADE still keeps looking for the stupid book! This is the only library book that this has ever happened with. There are still traces of it somewhere, and I'd like to get rid of them. Any other ideas? |

Just a suggestion...edit manifest.xml in the "My Digital Editions" directory, to remove the offending record.

There's no record of that title in the manifest.xml file. There is a record in the import.txt file... but I'm not sure what to edit. I don't want to destroy my whole database if I delete the wrong thing.

Any chance of borrowing the book again? If ADE still has traces of it in its system, it'll probably ask if you want to overwrite the file, which you could then do and return/delete again which might clear out that residue file.

I have had this happen. I figured out that the book was still on my kobo even though I had deleted it from ADE. Once I plugged in my kobo, deleted the book via ADE from my kobo, the message went away. Hopefully the same thing will work for you.

![]() I can try borrowing the book again and see if that helps... although that's probably what started this mess in the first place. I had to download the book multiple times because the file kept getting corrupted (or something). ADE didn't want to recognize it for some reason (it always worked fine on my Kobo, though). EDIT: Nope, that didn't work. I still keep getting the same message, even when the book is actually open in ADE! Deleting the book doesn't make any difference, either. It's almost as if ADE is looking for a different title. Maybe I got a different e-book because the library has multiple copies. Would that make a difference, though? EDIT AGAIN: Unbelievable! I removed the "manifest" and "import" files and tried starting ADE again. It generated new copies of both files... but it's still looking for that stupid book! What the heck?! Maybe uninstall ADE and then reinstall.
You'd have to reauthorize, but that should be no problem. |

Assuming you've checked the sub-directories under "My Digital Editions," but I can't imagine they'd have anything that would be an issue. There's nothing in the Program Files directory that would seem to be capable of keeping track of library files. Same for the registry.
I think you're at the point where you uninstall ADE, clean your registry, and try re-installing ADE. That, or an exorcism. |

Maybe shoot Jim Lester a PM and see if he has any insider ideas. He's the Adobe guy that hangs out on MobileRead.

Hope the queue for the book again isn't too long or you'll be waiting for ages to get rid of it. |
