Please Help

I bought a Kindle DX graphite at a fleamarket in NYC and when I got home found out it had a virus when I connected it to my computer. I deleted the files and put the updated 2.5.8 bin file and restarted. During the update it stopped and said the update failed with an error code of 006.

The device has pages that change but the buttons do not work and is totally unusable. I first thought it was a demo model because of the constantly changing screens. Now I'm not sure. I posted a request earlier and am doing so again.

Amazon refuses to help me because I can't provide a serial number.

I don't care how its done but can anyone on this forum get this device to work

Why you can't provide Serial number to Amazon? You can't find it or your device has no Serial number?

You can find serial in Device Manager (in MS Windows). Connect Kindle and open device manager, search for "USB controllers" group, and than find "USB mass storage" or like it. Open it and go to third tab. You can now select USB parameters and view it values. Look for first value like "USB\VID_1949..." at the end of this string you'll find Serial number.

Don't know if they will help me now but your suggestion worked.

Funny, tier two tech at Amazon said there was no way to get the serial outside of the menu or by taking a snapshot of the setting page using alt, . and G keys, which didn't work for me.

After an hour speaking with tier 2 support. They claimed that the sn I provided was in fact a demo model and Amazon would not help me.

Is there anyone who can put a working fw on this DX?
