For those that are ereader veterans:

Does the inability to put the ereader down wane at some point? I not only finished a book last night after going to bed...I started and finished another. I finally closed my eyes at 4:30 and had to get up at 7:00 and I'm dragging today

I have already read 9 books on the ereader in the few weeks I've had it. Is there any hope?!

You could always try crack or heroin. That might get you off books.

Well, if crack and heroin doesn't work, gouging out your eyes is always a last resort. That might cause other problems, though.

Yes, good audiobooks are more expensive than paper, and nearly as pricey as bad drugs.

On the upside, materials for learning/reading Braille get free shipping*!

* In Canada and the US at least; I have no idea about overseas.

Develop a bout of OCD and start spending as much time organizing the books on your e-reader as you do reading them!

I love your bunny/tree ticker, BTW, very cute!

Anyway, to answer the OP's question seriously (more-or-less), the novelty does wear off eventually. One's reading habit, on the other hand…

I think the problem here is that you started a second book which you then felt compelled to finish. Maybe you could implement a personal rule* that once you've finished a book after bedtime, no starting a new one until the next day.

* I freely admit I don't keep to this rule myself, especially not with paper books.

"Oh, this is due at the library soon; I should finally get around to reading it. Just a few quick pages to start with won't hurt…"

An hour or two later, I'm halfway through. On the upside, it does get returned on time.

I hear you. I sometimes struggle with this because I have a tendency to go sit down and read something to procrastinate, just because it's pretty satisfying busywork. And before I know it--I finished the book.

Place some limits on your reading, either by location or by time, or both. When I have too much work to do and I would use the Kindle to procrastinate, I would only allow myself to read the Kindle while on public transit (3 hours per day of public transit is still a lot of reading time). Or time yourself and have a cellphone alarm quietly make a meep after an hour, and turn that Kindle off no matter what! Now if I can only do the same with the internet X_X

Limits! Choose work! Oh, that's OK, only applies to Kindle owners...

Seriously if it really is a 'problem' then you must make the ultimate sacrifice and sit on it.....

Well...the book was that good. I had to know what happened! And it was a tear jerker so I spent the night snuffling, which made for a long day yesterday.

I did better last night, but only because the book I'm on now isn't very captivating...I'm almost tempted to give up on it. But then I might always wonder if it got better...and then I'd have to reborrow it and start over! Maybe I already have a touch of OCD?

But my habit is the real problem because I've done the all nighters before with paper books...it's about how captivated I am and my complete lack of self control
