Needed: 12 Step Program
For those that are ereader veterans:
Does the inability to put the ereader down wane at some point? I not only finished a book last night after going to bed...I started and finished another. I finally closed my eyes at 4:30 and had to get up at 7:00 and I'm dragging today ![]() ![]() I have already read 9 books on the ereader in the few weeks I've had it. Is there any hope?! ![]() |

You could always try crack or heroin. That might get you off books.

Well, if crack and heroin doesn't work, gouging out your eyes is always a last resort. That might cause other problems, though.

Yes, good audiobooks are more expensive than paper, and nearly as pricey as bad drugs.
On the upside, materials for learning/reading Braille get free shipping*! * In Canada and the US at least; I have no idea about overseas. |

Anyway, to answer the OP's question seriously (more-or-less), the novelty does wear off eventually. One's reading habit, on the other hand…
Quote:
* I freely admit I don't keep to this rule myself, especially not with paper books. "Oh, this is due at the library soon; I should finally get around to reading it. Just a few quick pages to start with won't hurt…" An hour or two later, I'm halfway through. On the upside, it does get returned on time. |

I hear you. I sometimes struggle with this because I have a tendency to go sit down and read something to procrastinate, just because it's pretty satisfying busywork. And before I know it--I finished the book.
Place some limits on your reading, either by location or by time, or both. When I have too much work to do and I would use the Kindle to procrastinate, I would only allow myself to read the Kindle while on public transit (3 hours per day of public transit is still a lot of reading time). Or time yourself and have a cellphone alarm quietly make a meep after an hour, and turn that Kindle off no matter what! Now if I can only do the same with the internet X_X |

I did better last night, but only because the book I'm on now isn't very captivating...I'm almost tempted to give up on it. But then I might always wonder if it got better...and then I'd have to reborrow it and start over! Maybe I already have a touch of OCD? ![]() But my habit is the real problem because I've done the all nighters before with paper books...it's about how captivated I am and my complete lack of self control ![]() |
