China's Baidu Search Engine Cracks Down on Pirated Books
Chinese search giant Baidu has removed 2.8 million books from its Baidu Wenku (Library) document sharing service after authors complained of copyright infringement.
Chinese search provider Baidu has cracked down on pirated material in response to author complaints about copyright infringement. This move comes as Western countries continue to press China to clamp down on Websites that distribute music, movies and intellectual property..... http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Search-Engi...-Books-541648/ |

Shouldn't we (Western countries, U.S in particular) be HAPPY that the Chinese want to absorb our ideas, culture, etc.? As opposed to bombing them into being more like us as we do some other places?
Go ahead, comrades, pirate away! Last edited by Barty; 03-30-2011 at 07:11 PM. |

Boy, you sure don't know anything about China! The Chinese government only cracked down because local authors complained. But my guess is that this is just the usual publicity stunt and everything will be back to "normal" within 2 weeks.

That's a lot of items being shared. Too bad it was shut down, maybe they needed better lawyers.

That is how piracy should be tackled by those who see it as a problem rather than an opportunity. It makes a lot more sense than bribing MPs for new laws that criminalise their best customers and take away their right to a fair trial when they are accused of wrongdoing.

They will block them for about two weeks then everything will be back to normal.
During the Expo, the pirate DVD stores made fake shops. When you walked in, it looked like a little shop with local DVDs and music. At the back was a fake door where all the pirate disks were. Fooled nobody but in China, it is all appearances. Kind of like the crackdown on drinking driving. They enforced it for a few weeks then claimed that there is now no drinking driving in China. I once saw a cop wake up a passed-out driver and tell him to move along. This announcement means nothing. |

It seems only Chinese know China.
Baidu is not a giant, it's a monster. |

Pirated CD DVD of M.J. are on sale in XinHua book store, the largest book store running by the government. And these disks are published by official publishers running by provincial government.
They are sold publicly in most middle and small cities. And there're always mistakes on spelling of English words. |
