Dead PRS-300

Hello, I hope someone can suggest a solution to my problem.

The problem is this:

My PRS-300 won't turn on at all, and will not register as a device when plugged in by USB.

I have tried charging overnight from a (not sleeping) PC and from a mains charger that I bought to try and solve the problem. With either method a red light comes on for a couple of minutes and then goes off.

I was going to try a new battery but having taken the device apart and tested the battery with a multimeter it reads at 4.15V (the battery is a 4.2V not a 3.7 as listed in the service manual

So it looks to me that the battery is actually fully charged. I am out of ideas, does anyone have a suggestion?

(it is out of warranty)

Thanks in advance!

hmm, that page has been deleted, did you mean https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Sony...nd_Reset_Guide?

Sadly I can't try any of the things on that page (soft/hard reset etc) as it won't turn on at all :|

If you press the reset and then toggle the power switch, does anything at all happen?

Sorry about that..

I didn't realize it was gone... my suggestion is the old paper-clip in the reset hole and then toggle the slide switch,

Can you give it a good long charge via a mains charger? Sometimes the battery is too depleted to charge via USB, and the battery meter may not be accurate.

Thanks very much for all your suggestions everyone, sadly after further testing of the battery and trying all your ideas I had to pronounce the PRS-300 dead yesterday.

On the bright side I bought a PRS-350 today and it is awesome

Thanks, so far I do love it, I loved my 300 so I can't imagine any problem with the 350. I do feel sad about the 300, but it is in my box of bits and components for further experimentation and projects so hopefully it will be used for something useful sometime...........

Edit: also wanted to say that it is refreshing how helpful and nice everyone is on this forum.
