Heard this mentioned somewhere-do the new Kindles support epub?

AFAIK, no. And I doubt it will ever support it.

Fortunately you can convert unDRM ePubs to mobi, which are supported by Kindle.

Installing Duokan allows your kindle to read epub files (and chm and doc and djvu) as well as being a better pdf reader for the K2 and DX/DXG.

See info here: http://flip.netzbeben.de/2010/11/duo...ish-gui-today/

Duokan is an alternative OS that your kindle can boot, not a hack or "jailbreak" that will prevent future Kindle OS updates. Your original Kindle OS is still fully functional.

Duokan is a great piece of product. I installed it on my DXG and played a bit. It has lots of options but fonts rendering is quite bad comparing to native Amazon software. I dunno why but reading on Duokan was a pain for my eyes. IMHO.

Really? I'm not sure about epubs, but I use Duokan for PDF all the time.
I love how you can control the contrast and always darken it up.

Well, lucky your are )) I played with Duokan quite a bit and still have it installed on my Kindle but I rare use it. Darkening the fonts makes them look blurry. Yes, they are quite readable but they look like the ones on a 100 years old newspaper Sony, as I recall, implemented that feauture quite well on their new products. If Duokan people could improve it, their OS could be a good supplement to the original one.

Yes. You are correct. It doesn't render fonts as well as the kindle.
I wish they'd add that option to their firmware.
Don't make me go out and buy a sony now! ...I'm this close [.]

I've seen pdfs in which text looks fuzzy but I think that's because they were created using scanned images that weren't sharp and no OCR was run- they just save the pages as images in a pdf file. That gives the ancient newspaper look.

I think the rendering of the fonts is fine- they appear sharp, but whoever chose the English fonts must not read much in English. I find the PMN Caecilia LT 66 font to be pretty easy on the eyes. The KindleBlackbox Regular font seems OK too. The Helvetica's are awful.
