Amazon has a list of free high school books in the CK-12 series:

There are also middle school ones from the organisations website with .pdfs saying which parts are suitable for which state's curriculum.

However, I would warn people that the quality of the books varies greatly.

Many of the reviews do state these are more in the format of "Introduction to..." type of books, not full blown school style text books, but apparently they still do have plenty of useful information.

I picked up some copies a while back. I figured they might give an overview of the topics and give me some background stuff that might one day be useful for a book or something.

I wasn't saying they are not useful, I use parts of them for teaching regularly. Just a note of caution if people are going to use for home-ed or as additional work for their kids they you do need to be a bit critical with some parts of them.

Yeah - I grabbed these a while ago because I thought it couldn't hurt to have some info available. I've always entertained the notion of getting back into mathematics.

Whether that's before or after I become Prime Minister of Australia, I have not yet decided.

Especially as he'd probably be one of the few government leaders anywhere who had managed to actually do so. At least from where I'm standing.

Don't feel bad. Math was never my best subject in school either. Oddly enough when I went through college and took the math for my studies I got a B+ for the final grade. I still haven't figured out how that happened.

Sweet! Thanks for posting this, Screwball. I'm weird when it comes to math. I can be really good at it, but only in certain applications - primarily business math and construction math (though I'm out of practice on some of it). But if you hand me a sheet of paper with math problems with no context, I flounder badly.

People wanting DRM-free ePub versions can also get them directly from the CK-12 org's website (also free via the Apple iBookstore).

I find the ones for the harder sciences (chemistry, maths, etc.) tend to work out better than the ones for biology et al. But then the facts and what you need to learn about them are a bit less fuzzy for those subjects.

maybe maturity? xD man, i am SO glad our pregnant teacher for financial math took a leave and someone else replaced her. this new prof is so much better. he really teaches it step by step, and takes us slowly. i'm beginning to get more interested already

plus he's a nice and approachable guy, so that helps.
