USB charge not working after latest firmware?

I have had two occurrences of being in low battery (one square left, so not completely empty) and, after pluging the PRS to a USB port of a powered computer, after a few hours I find the reader completely empty (barely able to power up, saying "no battery" at the bottom of the screen and no squares in the battery metter).

Also the red light of charge never lits when plugging the reader to the USB. The AC charger works as always. Anyone noticed something similar? Could it be that the reader is already too empty to allow charge from USB or am I witnessing a new bug? |

I just plugged my Reader into the USB port. The red light did come on. My reader is at 3 bars.

I failed to mention that I have installed the flash mod (the standard, clock only mod). Do you have it?

I experienced the "unable to charge from USB" just after receiving my reader: but then, it wouldn't react at all, as the battery was too drained. However, in these ocurrences I describe now, the screen changes to display the "USB connected" message and icon. |

Thanks people. I'll try to USB charge with more squares left to see if that's the problem.

I recently recharged mine (down to two bars) using USB, just before installing the clock reflash. No problem then. Haven't tried since installing the clock.

I have just about every "hack" available for English users on mine so far. It charges fine via USB when libprs500 is loaded. It never did charge unless the software was running.

Thanks for the hint, Beartard: indeed mine charges also when I launch libprs500. I find this a bit puzzling, the usb port will give the power once the device is connected, but I guess it must be "awakened" by the computer so it starts charging...

The Reader won't charge from a "dumb" USB connector; you need to have "Connect" or "libprs500" in order to do USB charging.

Mobileread comes through for me again. I was at my wits end trying to charge over USB because my laptop went into sleep mode and it must have stopped charging. I'd wake up in the morning and find my battery dead again. Now, problem solved. My red light stays on just fine. 'preciate it, boys.
