Internal and User Categories = Identifiers

Calibre left side vertical bar has Authors, Series, Formats, Rating, News, Tags, Identifiers, Genres (thanks to Charles !), Searches

What is Identifiers for ? can i delete identifier from the Indentifiers list (isbn for example) ? Can i manage Identifiers as Series or Publishers or Tags ?

Is Identifiers related to the book data ? if i see Identifier = "[5798] isbn" - does this mean that 5798 books have 5798 isbn into the book file structure ?

Thank you.

Identifiers are identifiers like isbn, doi, asin, etc. At the moment only ISBN is supported but in the future you will be able to add more identifier types. The identifiers entry in the Tag browser behaves just like the Formats entry.

I had missed that new item.
So I clicked it once: All those books have ISBN in the metadata.
I clicked it again (Red - )
Those did not have ISBN entries

Doesn't anyont ever 'just try' somethin (Discovery process) anymore? Calibre does try and prevent total 'foot shooting' (Yes, I know someone who shot his own foot practicing 'quick draws' with a loaded gun)

"goodreads" will come from every time you have linked a book using the Goodreads Sync plugin. So 281 of your books you have linked either directly or indirectly through using adding to shelves or syncing from shelves.

My identifiers are

[1] 0-671-65831-x
[1] 0-671-73593-4
[1] 978-0-671-74715-2
[1] goodreads
[5640] isbn

I understand the last two identifiers, but I have no idea where the first 3 number identifiers originate. They are obviously associated with single books, but I fail to find the number in the metadata or the book.

Both those numbers are isbns that for some reason (presumably a bug) got assigned as the identifier type rather than value. Try clicking on them to search by them, do they have any matches?

A separate book is indeed associated with each of these identifiers. If I Google the identifiers they are associated with the books. My confusion is in the fact that I use different isbns for these three books, so I'm not sure where the numbers shown come from.

Can you open a ticket and attach these files, mark the ticket as private if the files are not in the public domain, the number probably came from the internal metadata of the files.

The identifiers are in the external metadata.opf files but not in the epub nor as best I can tell in the calibre database. I can manually edit this info out but I opened a ticket and will let Kovid tell me if that is the best solution.

I got 2 identifiers, I could not identify:
uri
urn
There is no meta-data that makes me think the books are different from books not in these sets so I do not know why these are in it. Is there documentation about this?
