Looks wise, which is sexier?

I just ordered my first iPad a few days ago, and I was wondering, am I the only one that thinks the iPad 1 design is sexier than the iPad 2 design?

I like the angles of the sides with the curve of the back. I like that I can see an aluminum edge around the screen. I think the new iPad looks boring. I like the thinnest, but it still looks boring and ordinary to me; like nothing special.

What do you think?

Are you buying it as a fashion accessory, or to actually use?

Wait till you see its display in broad sunlight. Neither appear sexy then.

I never sit out in broad sunlight. I will see how it is in the shade, but I have my other readers for that. This one is going to be mostly for textbooks, if it works out.

I'm loving my Xoom for PDFs! No other reader (including my netbook) has worked as well.

Screen is bright enough to use in shade, but not well in direct sunlight.

I like the iPad 1 design too, but The iPad 2 with Smart Cover is pretty refined-you really need to see and hold it in real life to appreciate the detail and finish.

I have a reading spot in my backyard in the shade (north side); I've taken my netbook out there, so I'd assume that my iPad would be just as fine.

I do like that smart cover. Even though I don't like the proprietary aspects of Apple products, when it comes to design and aesthetics, they're on top of their game. What made me not want to get the Kindle 1 was the design. I'd rather hold a heavy book than that big plastic ugly thing. LOL... Just like I'll pay a little more for great customer service; I'll pay more for pleasing aesthetics. I have enough electronics that that need to be kept away because they're utilitarian, but ugly.

The Kindle 3 is a huge improvement design-wise and just feel-wise; I think Amazon is finally starting to hit their stride in terms of product design.

And I agree-for me, pleasing aesthetics aren't merely window dressing, they are an integral part of the user experience.

Agreed! What are your impressions on the iPad 2? Mine is on order so another week before it arrives.

MsAstoria, it is really nice. I actually wasn't expecting more than an incremental change at this point, despite the crazy rumors the last couple months. But the speed and extra RAM really make the experience just that much more seamless, and the refinements to the form (thinner, lighter, curvier) really make using it a joy.

Bottom line, if you liked the first iPad-you are really going to love the iPad 2.

For those that avoided the first iPad because of the lack of Flash or the curated vs. open experience thing, then nothing here will change their mind.

Thanks, looking forward to getting it. I was going to hold out for iPad 3 but realize that the resale vaule of my iPad 1 would only go down with time, so decided to sell it and use the proceeds towards the purchase. I should net more than half of the cost from the sale, so not too bad.
Upgrading to the lastest model is no worse than upgrading your home computer to the next level. May not look that much different but there's always improvements inside.
Funny, folks are going "wacko" over the smart cover! Course, I ordered one too. Will be nice to have "instant on and off" with the cover. Very clever on Apple's part. For the back, I have ordered a Ipad 3 Gelaskin. I have one on my Ipad and it looks great and provides protection from scratching the shiny metal back.
Finally got my confirmation email from Apple today for order placed Friday morning @ 1AM. They must have really been hit by online orders! I look for items to start shipping tomorrow as the cover is suppose to be here on Tuesday and the ipad shipping sometime this week.
