Do you really like reading on this?

I know a lot of people have rooted this device. I realize a lot of people are not using it as a reader. Many still have a e-ink reader on the side. Which in some ways makes me feel like B&N failed to make a competitive reader. So I am wondering if anyone truly enjoys reading on it.

I sure do!!!! whether in the sun or in my bed with the lights off ... I just adjust the brightness and the background and I read away...

2 things I wish - profiles - for screen brightness and font/background changes
and that the battery lasted a little longer. If I leave wifi off, it lasts a good long while though ....

I read on it. I did root mine, but I primarily use it as an e-reader.

Absolutely. This is without a doubt the best screen I have ever read books on. I rooted mine for a time, but went back to factory because after the newness of rooting wore off all I was doing was reading on it. I will occasionally surf the web on it, but 90% of the time I'm reading on it and I love the crispness of the fonts, the contrast and all the color and brightness options.

I still have an eink device, but it only gets used when I am reading outside in the sun and that is pretty rarely.

I use it almost exclusively as a reader. Of course, I've only had it for about a week. I haven't discovered all the good things it does yet.

Yes, mine is rooted, and yes I use it primarily as a reader.

Rooting allowed me to read my existing Kindle books on the Nook Color, and also lets me use Aldiko rather than the NC's reader for non B&N ePubs. (I prefer Aldiko because it lets me read in landscape which is much easier than portrait when lying in bed - and it has much better brightness controls - also important at night.)

I also put the Comixology and Graphic.ly apps on it - as well as ACV - so I can also use it to read comics on a sharp screen in full color.

I rooted mine to make it a better reader - the other tablet functions are nice, but they're secondary to the primary function of reading.

I have 3 eink readers & have hardly touched them since I got the NookColor. It's rooted but I use it mostly for reading. However I like the tablet features & do use them on a daily basis - just not all day like my reading.

Of course! I usually read pdfs and a epub here and there along with magazines. I also have subscriptions to online books from safarionline and their mobile site is pretty decent for reading books.

All the above doesn't require a root, but for the stuff I do, rooting provides a bit of flexibility.

While it's only been a few days, I'm still doing my time reading on my Sony Reader. I put a couple of books on the Nook Color and a trial subscription. But I find it too heavy and I don't like the glare.

I do a lot of reading on the commute to/form work, standing up while cooking in the kitchen and outdoors when the weather gets warmer. Plus I stare enough at a computer screen too much of the day as it is).

I may change my mind once I root it and start using it for other things. But other than cooking magazines (where I like to rip out recipes), most of my reading isn't of the type that would benefit from a color screen.

I rooted my Nook Color just a few days ago, and I find that my reading habits haven't changed since I rooted it, meaning, I'm still reading just as much as I was. In fact one of my reasons for rooting was seeing so many folks here praising other reading apps like Moon+ and Aldiko, so I'm trying those out to see which I like best, instead of the stock. That and I like being able to read Kindle books on the Nook.

Is it difficult to root the Nook Color? I was trying to get a tablet and the price of the Nook Color is pretty sweet. But the app installation restrictions do hinder the choice.

Mine is not rooted. It is a reader to me, first and foremost.

I love reading on it but then I've always preferred lcd to e-ink screens. There's something just dull about e-ink that bothers me and I read mainly indoors. I've rooted it, because I'm not keen on the B&N home screen nor the sorting system of ebooks on the stock ereader.

I use Moon reader, that I can sort the ebooks by tags which works well. I've used Froyo and CM7 versions but I'm back to stock 1.1 rooted, now. I like to play and test stuff out, but when it comes down to it, it's mainly an ereader to me.

I bought the nook color only to use as a tablet. For years I read on pdas and my eyes suffered with the backlit screens. I prefer e-ink and read on my Sony 350. I did try to read on the nook when I first got it, but I found that backlighting still bothered me, and it was way too heavy for me as I tend to read for long periods of time. It is a nice tablet though, and I'm glad I bought it.

I can read on it, and don't mind it too much. I prefer the e-ink Nook classic though for reading. One of the best things is the dedicated hardware pageturn buttons.

I find myself accidentally turning pages at times with the NC, especially if my kids are up and I'm putting it down / picking it back up a lot. And I prefer not to touch the screen (I like it nice and clean). The e-ink stays a lot cleaner.
