New Kindle DX Email question..

I know I can access gmail and use it for receiving and sending emails but does anyone know if it is possible top have the Kindle DX model alert you when a new email has been sent to you?

And if it is how do you enable that function?

not without any firmware changes(dont think i've heard of any that will do that)

but the Kindle DX has the old, old email browser... the Kindle 3 has the webkit one which is a lot better, so it might be possible on the K3

There is no way to make it send you an alert automatically, and there is no way to really develop a hack - it would require obtaining your device specific key to decrypt amazon's HTTP proxy to use web traffic which could get you banned from 3G.

you can however use igoogle mobile, which is fast but requires you to launch the browser. Just make sure you add the gmail gadget.

Well I was able to finally access my gmail.., I don't care how glowing the reviews are as far as net capabilities go, this thing is a dog. It's fine as a reader and when buying the DX I really thought I was getting the latest version but it's only the 2nd version, not the third so it's doesn't seem compatible with some of the upgrades mentioned.

I'll probable still keep it though, the larger screen is nice to have.
