No more DX for me!
Hi, I wanted to share my experience with others so that maybe it might help you, when choosing the right kindle.
My first kindle was the US DX and after that the Kindle DX graphite with international 3G. I always had the thought that the DX was better: hey its almost $400 dollars so it must be better. I also thought there"s no way I would go for the smaller kindle, a bigger screen is always better, especially for newspapers and PDFs. Well, it turned out that I never used pdfs and the layout of newspapers on the kindle(with a single), it didn't quite make use of the extra real estate of the DX. So, after sending my DX back due to a faulty 3G chip I decided to go for the Kindle 3g+ wifi....and I'm very happy I did. It's much much smaller, making me realize how heavy the DX was. I always had to use with 2 hand, now I can finally hold the kindle with one hand and not get tired. That makes all the difference for me. When I first saw the device and how tiny it was, I was a bit afraid that I made the wrong choice: the screen is going to be too small and unreadable. I was wrong. it's actually perfect and mobile, although you will be able less text, when compared to the DX. Another plus is that its faster too. The second biggest change for me is the wifi, things get done alot easier. 3G is nice, but how many times are you going to be buying book on the go? You can probably buy something before going somwhere. The 3G to me is more for non-reading tasks like tweeting text or check mail. So after only using the DX, I now prfer the smaller and luckily cheaper Kindle. Did you switch from the dx to the smaller kindle or the other way around? |

![]() The only thing I dislike with the DXG is the lack of page turn buttons on both sides which is the reason I will not 'upgrade' (I actually think in a few ways it's a downgrade) to the K3 for that reason. |

I've had a Nook for quite a while, and just bought a DX because I do read a lot of pdfs and the small screen just doesn't cut it for a lot of those. But the pdfs I plan to read on the DX are mostly work-related--the DX will let me keep my research with me all the time. I'll still use the Nook for pleasure reading, but the DX will fill a valuable role for me.

Mr Manou has a DX and is very happy with it. He considers my Kindle 3 as too flimsy.
I am very happy with my K 3 and think the DX is too heavy. Each on his own - we all have different preferences ![]() |

Have both, each is better than the other at some things. For super lightness, tho, nothing beats the ipod touch.

The only reason why I got the DX was to read books on a large screen, and it does this well. If you want another reader with a large screen, you will have to go with a different brand, but kindle is still the best available over 9 inches.
Crying about it and going down to 6 inch screen doesn't solve the problem. Sure you can get more features, but all you get is more features... and a smaller screen... maybe some small amount of money... oh and less tears. |

This is a good thread for me as a newbie . . .
![]() I have the Kindle3 (with WiFi and 3G), and so far, am VERY happy with it! As curstpriest mentions, I am wondering if I should have bought the DX for the larger sized screen. Weight or portability is not a concern for me. I don't know what curstpriest means about "more features" on the K3, though . . . ![]() Could you please elaborate, curstpriest? Thanks, and all best, Joe |

Glad you are loving your k3! I'm loving mine too.
![]() Not giving away my DX yet though, because I read a lot of PDFs for work, that just aren't legible on the K3. Looking forward to the day when those read well on the smaller screen too. Whenever someone looks over my shoulder and says, "But the screen is so small," I usually point out that it's the size of a paperback. If that's not convincing, then the ability to adjust the print size usually is! |

I actually have a DXG and K3 at home though the K3 is my son's... I keep the wireless on all the time on both Kindles and I can pick and choose what I want to use to read.
My DX is mainly used for my textbooks for school and reading when I am at home. If I am going to be on the road it is the K3 that goes with me |
