Free (Kindle) Countdown by Jonathan Maberry

Countdown by Jonathan Maberry (pre-order)

Quote:
Product Description

Countdown: A Joe Ledger Bonus Story

“I didn’t plan to kill anyone. I wasn’t totally against the idea, either. Sometimes things just fall that way, and either you roll with it or it rolls over you. Letting the bad guys win isn’t how I roll.”

Meet Joe Ledger, Baltimore PD, attached to a Homeland task force… whose about to get a serious promotion.

Thanks.

Got it!

(What's wrong with the above sentence? First correct answer gets a hearty handclasp.)

A silly mistake like that right in the blurb does not bode well for the quality of the book in question.

I think I smell self-publishing.

No, wait, it says it's from Macmillan.

That's what I thought, too, that it was self-published. Can't believe it's Macmillan.

Even though the blurb writer presumably had nothing to do with the book itself, still, it's such a dumb error that it was enough to make me not bother getting the book.

Is the question referring to the book description or the questioner's own "got it?"

Pre-order - so nothing is got, yet.

I hope you all realize that the author is not responsible for the blurb, someone at the publishing house is. A week ago, I noticed that a freebie had a blurb that used compliment when it should have been complement. The blurb was from a passage in the book, but in the book it was using the correct word. Makes me wonder how that happened, was it originally wrong in the book, but caught before it was released, or did the blurb writer mess it up?

I don't blame the author, I blame the publisher. But I still don't want to read a sloppy book. This one was of only marginal interest to me, and the mistake tipped the balance against it.

Hi

I'm not sure how this works. It's a pre-order at 0.00 if I order it do I then get billed at it's going price when released?

Thank you

Gary

No - you pay the price at the time you click. If that's $0.00, that's what you pay.

If you wait, you may get it it free, you may pay a higher price or you may miss out entirely -- there is no guarantee it'll even be for sale at all later on, as has proven the case with other pre-orders.

Hey, guys. The story is free and is a prequel to my series of novels featuring Joe Ledger: PATIENT ZERO (2009), THE DRAGON FACTORY (2010), and the upcoming THE KING OF PLAGUES (March 29 in print and e-book).

The copywriter who misspelled 'whose' has already gotten a boatload of letters (from readers and from me). It'll be corrected asap.

I write a free short story between each of the novels in the series. The second, DEEP, DARK was available last year. A new one, MATERIAL WITNESS is available as a pdf download and will be released to e-readers in a few weeks.

The whole series has been optioned for TV by Sony. I'm currently writing the fourth book in the series, ASSASSIN'S CODE, scheduled for March 2012.

Not only is the book /not/ self-published, Jonathan Maberry is a best-selling author in the horror-action genre.

(I see he's taken the time to weigh in... I heard you speak at Seton Hill this past January, and really appreciated your insights).

That trip to Seton Hill was a lot of fun. What a brilliant program they have there. Great faculty, great students.

If you ever have any questions on publishing, feel free to hit me at jonathan_maberry@yahoo.com. As I mentioned during my remarks, the publishing industry flourishes when there are more good writers breaking in.
