I have them both and love them both!
Honestly, between the Nook Color and Kindle, neither one is a perfect e-reader. Each has its good and bad points. Having both of them makes it the perfect e-reader... But I think you can say that for any combination of color reader and e-ink reader :-) |

They both are addressing different market segments. One is an eink device the other one a tablet. Kindle excels as dedicated ereader, for pure text books; NC is ideal for magazines and even browsing the Internet. The author himself says that for a novel, Kindle will server well.

Well.. how can you compare the Nook Color with the Kindle??? The Kindle is eInk and the Nook Color is backlit. That is definitely not a fair comparison.

The only reason i would not get a Nook Color is because it has an LCD screen, have you tried reading a book on an LCD screen?

Other than direct sunlight, the LCD is fine for reading. Granted, I personally prefer the eInk of my nook for most of my reading, but the NC has some advantages as well. For instance, for reading in a poorly lit room the NC is hands-down better. And the NC is far more flexible, looking up a word with the touch screen is a breeze, while it's a royal pain on the nook, to name but one feature.

It's already been beaten to death on this forum that for simple reading some folks like LCD better or as well as e-ink, and some feel the opposite. So why continue to argue about it??
As far as the article, it states pretty clearly: "Because it's a high-contrast medium, e-ink is great for presenting basic text on a page. But it's poor at displaying pictures and, at least in its current state of development, can't refresh quickly enough to present videos. ... "That's not a problem if all you plan to read on an e-reader are novels. But the Kindle and other e-ink devices are ill-suited for displaying illustrated children's books and nonfiction titles with full-color pictures, not to mention magazines, newspapers or Web pages." That's a fair and accurate discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of each technology. That's how you can compare e-ink and LCD, and is a valid thing to do, IMHO. Tell it to the people who keep saying it's so hard to read on LCD.
If you're addressing me then I am simply replying to someone's statement. You're right that this subject has been beaten to death yet people still make the same statements about how difficult it is to read on LCD. This is not so for everyone. There is nothing wrong with correcting erroneous statements. |

I am still in shock at how much I not only enjoy reading on the LCD but love it. The sharper text, a true contrast ratio etc.
don't get me wrong, I love my nook classic to deat but, the sharper text and reading in low light etc, is just amazing. Barnes and noble did a top notch job on the display, it's very high end. |

Under proper or normal light conditions, reading from e-ink screens is easier to eyes than LCD.
Reading a novel for several hours in an e-ink device provides a closer paper book reading experience than an LCD display. Now, e-ink devices can't do color, so for magazines or even browsing the web is not a suitable choice. No doubt about it. |

Reading on the LCD is similar to reading on a computer, so if your job involves using a computer for lots of the day, then reading for pleasure on an LCD screen might seem more like work, than fun. And your eyes might think the same. But if you didn't work with computers then I am guessing this wouldn't be an issue.
