Giving it a shot!
I'm picking one up today.
I don't have a PC right now (on order, on my work PC), but there is a TON in my B&N Library that I want to read, so I'll root it when I get my laptop. I'm a big advocate of not being able to read on an LCD (well not really advocate, there is nothing wrong with being able to LOL), but we'll see how this goes. I'll buy it and try it out over the weekend and see what happens. Are the new ones still rootable?? Thanks! |

As far as I know, all the NC's are rootable and are going to remain that way until they change the hardware. They're hard-wired to boot off the SD Card first, so there's no way to stop users from being able to root it unless they give up the ability to update the firmware.

I wanted this to work, sadly it doesn't work for me.
I have a giant headache from reading on it for no more than 15 minutes.. Wanted to sit down and read it but they wouldn't let me sit in the cafe and read so I had to buy it. I never left the store with it. Returned it 20 minutes later |

did you adjust the brightness and toggle through some different backgrounds? That def. helps/ If so then hey you gave it a shot but if not, I would try playing around a bit you may find a different result.

Sorry it didn't work out. The grey background when reading is a nice way to get adjusted to it. If you've used an eink device it makes for a nice transition.
A headache after only 15 minutes is odd if you use a computer on a regular basis. Did you adjust the brightness? |

Yeah I adjusted all of that.
It actually makes perfect sense because on a computer screen I'm not staring it just a static screen all the time there is always movement going on. It's not just text on a screen. I'm always scrolling around on a pc. |

That's the way I feel about reading on it too. I still love mine and use it as a tablet, but I really love my nook classic more for reading. I can stare at the nook classic screen for hours without any problems. Where as monitors, I never stare at those for hours--I'm looking at multiple applications on the monitor or I'm looking at the keyboard or over at the phone, etc. Which is why I have no problem with using the Nook color as a tablet--because the screen is usually always changing. I'm either looking at different web pages, or different apps...
