A mere 46 million light-years distant, spiral galaxy NGC 2841 can be found in the northern constellation of Ursa Major.

Breathtaking picture. BTW, if you're interested in Astronomy and Physics, I'm about a third of the way into Brian Greene's latest book, Hidden Reality and, so far, it is very interesting.

It's primarily because it over-saturates the imaging device. As an astro-photographer myself, it's extraordinary difficult to get a nice-looking image that shows both the nucleus and the spiral arms of a galaxy, because the nucleus is so much brighter. You end up either with an over-exposed nucleus and nice-looking spiral arms, or a correctly exposed nucleus and almost invisible spiral arms.

No, there is indeed a black hole in the centre of pretty much every galaxy, but it's an EXTREMELY small object. You can't see it (obviously!); they are detected by their X-ray emissions.
