Is this normal for a Kobo Wifi?

I am still happily using my Kobo Wifi but I have noticed something that happens and I am wondering if it is a normal issue or if I should be looking to exchange it. My Kobo doesn't give me much warning of a low battery status. Once the warning screen comes on that is it I cannot turn it on again. Sometimes if I allow the battery charge to go low enough it will actually lose my page (it seems to recall the page I was on the previous time) and it also loses my Wifi settings.

Obviously my battery doesn't need to be charged every day so this isn't a big issue for me. I am wondering if it may be an issue that others are having that will be fixed with firmware or do I just have a bad battery? Any idea what it would cost to replace the battery or what battery it takes? I have had mine for only a few months but I do use it quite a bit.

I'm sure someone will chime in with the answers you are looking for, but I wanted to mention that my kobo wifi does the exact same thing. There is no "low battery warning" - it's just dead. And it will lose my bookmarks, same as you.

Huh? I seem to remember the only time I let my battery get low it put a warning up on the screen.

I looked it up in the user guide and it says:

"When your battery gets very low on power, your eReader displays a warning message on screen. To recharge your eReader, connect it to your computer using the USB cable provided.

If your battery level drops to 20%, your eReader will warn you that you need to charge it. To clear the warning, connect your eReader to your computer using the USB cable provided. This will also start recharging your eReader."

I don't believe the battery is user replaceable.

Mine did that too a few times- all of a sudden, bam, no more reading until it's plugged in. No "low battery warning". Plus, a couple of times that happened when the battery level had fairly recently showed about 40% charge.
It's annoying; would be nice to see that fixed.

I'm seeing the same, and it's really bugging me. I lost my page in a book and had to manually turn through 100 pages (about 200 button presses) to get back to where I was, because the stupid thing doesn't have a "go to page" function.

Much as I like the Kobo's hardware, the software needs some love, and it's driving me increasingly insane that it's written in C++ and Qt (so it's familiar territory for me), runs on Linux, but I don't have the source code so I can't fix things!

Does it help at all that the newer firmware allows you to charge and read at the same time?

It's not really a warning though - since the only way to get rid of the screen is to plug it in and charge it. If it was actually a warning, you should be able to clear the screen and keep reading until you are able to get to a charger (or until it starts getting more critically low). I just had this screen come up in the middle of reading a sentence, which is very annoying especially if you are nowhere near a charger at the time. At least let me return to the page so I can find a sensible place to stop reading.

I have the latest firmware for the wifi. The new firmware that was recently released was only for the previous version of the Kobo not the wifi. With the wifi we have always been able to read while charging which is why this hasn't been as big of an issue. I am glad to hear it is not just me. I have noticed the warning isn't much when it is going. It drops from half charged to the warning screen pretty fast and as others have said it isn't much of a warning because once it shows up that is it. No more Kobo till you charge. I also noticed a huge difference in the battery life if you use the wifi function at all. Growing pains that's all. My husband cross border shopped a top of the line Sony and as amusing as having a touch screen and all that was I found issues with it's firmware too. My Kobo has less issues with using the wifi than his fancy Sony so C'est la vie!

My husband's Kobo has done the same trick. My Mom's hasn't gotten that low yet.

I just picked up one of these since Borders had such a good price on them and my Sony PRS-505's battery is starting to go... i.e. wanted another eInk device for when the 505 gets too bad and something to use while awaiting a new battery to be shipped... (going to go the replace it myself route as it doesn't look too awful...)

Anyways on the Sony, the majority of my battery runtime has ALWAYS seemed to be in the 50-100% range, once it drops below that it declines fairly quickly and at 25% I know that it's almost dead... It's gotten to the point now where it goes from 25% to the triangle w/exclamation point almost instantly...

Still waiting for my Kobo WiFi to charge up, just wish that they had an AC plug for an optional fast charger like the Sony and most other devices... Anyways plan to use it alot over the next week to check if mine has the battery problems. Also need to update the fw as what came on mine is 2.71 IIRC from 10/10...

[EDIT]
Wow! Just noticed: "made in Taiwan"! First consumer electronic device that I've seen in quite some time that was NOT made in PRC...
