Rooted NC & Overheating
I spent this weekend watching my daughter at her swim meet and both days it seemed like a sauna. Today it seemed hotter then yesterday and I got about 120 pages read when my daughter wasn't swimming but towards the end it seemed really hot, so I shut it down. I remember reading somewhere that a rooted NC disables the autoshutdown for when it overheats. I have updated my rooted NC to 1.1, is that still the case or is there a work around to deal with the heat?
I haven't had the opportunity to take the NC poolside but I am expecting to, I just don't want to worry about overheating issues or at least be prepared for them. Thanks Quistopher |

The overheating issue was mentioned with the froyo port as the developers disabled battery monitoring. This is not the case of the stock software plus root, your NC has the safety checks in place. That said, if it gets very hot, turning it off fora while cant be bad.

I felt like mine was getting hot there for a time, I got the advanced task killer app from market and used that to stop some of the stuff I know I wasn't using, it seemed to help.
It could of been in my head though. ![]() |

Autonooter shouldn't have made any difference in heat. As mentioned above, the very first (and unreleased) froyo played games with the temp monitor (current Froyo is as safe as the stock Eclair as far as temperature).
However, I've noticed a difference in heat by turning the wifi off. I think that with 1.1, wifi is more aggresively trying to activate (although I have had problems with 1.1 and wifi after coming out of a sleep mode). My guess is that the wifi was trying to connect, or at least scanning in the background while you were at the swim meet. I've noticed that keeping wifi turned off reduces the heat on my NC> Turning screen brightness up also generates more heat. And it is possible that a "rogue" application was running in teh background - you may want to download a task killer to see if you notice any problems with tasks running disproportionately. However, be aware that task killers are frequently TOO agressive in terminating tasks. |

Thanks for the feedback, I had everything else on it turned off and I set the screen to about 15-20%. It just seemed much hotter then I had ever gotten it so it was worth posting.
