Interesting experience

Well it was for me ...

I dropped into our local Waterstones, on display 2 readers that shall remain nameless because the store did not have them switched on!

They had 2 Sony Touch readers available for looking at, both switched on but no books loaded!.

I found the metal case intriguing......

I then walked to the Apple Store, and browsed among their iPads and iPods. I also looked at their Airbook (?), and also a touch-sensitive mouse.

I found these metal cases, also intriguing......

On touching the metal surfaces they tingled my skin! I am assuming this is a common feature; do those of you who have these readers even notice the sensation, or am I unusually sensitive?

It may be the temperature or texture of the metal surface. There really shouldn't be any sort of electrical charge going through the metal other than an occasional buildup of static electricity.

I'm going to guess you're sensitive and more used to holding plastic than aluminum

You are clearly a more sensitive person than me - never felt that before.

Okay I felt my Sony350. I think I notice a textural difference that when rubbing my fingers across it leaves a tingly sensation on my fingertips. But this does not feel electrical to me, just a sensation that the result of something that is not as smooth as plastic.

I know Apple's keen design aesthetics often cause excitement among the press and the population in general, but a minor orgasmic response? Wow! Hehe. Just kidding.

Regarding any kind of continuous tingling sensation, NO, this definitely IS NOT a "common feature". Either you are hyper sensitive or there's an electrical short in those demo units!

Actually, while I wouldn't say that this is exactly normal, it's definitely common enough. I get that mild tingling/electric feeling under certain circumstances with my unibody Macbook Pro. I haven't felt that recently though, so I don't remember under what circumstances I notice it. All I know is that the devices that have this "feature" need to be plugged in, otherwise you don't feel anything when you run your fingers along the exposed metal parts of the device. Doing a search on Google brings up a lot of results about this issue.

Plugged in, that they all were - It could, I suppose be something they've rigged up in the security line....Other than that I'm a sensitive guy really .....

Or it could be Mains Leakage from something in the store's way of (improperly) powering the device (if not factory adapter).

Possibly if it had been experienced in just the one store - but as it was in two separate stores, less likely one would have thought....
