Gave my daughter my old PRS 700

And she's not been able to get it to work with anything. She's tried Adobe Digital Edition, it won't recognize it. She cannot get the Sony Service to work either.

Any ideas ?

Going to send her this link.... So please help.

If you had that exact device registered (linked) to ADE and Sony from your computer, and she's using another one, I think that may be the problem!

Hi, Cerridwyn. You might get a better response if you can post some more details. For example, what kind of computer does she have?

Did you deactivate your 700 from your accounts before you gave it to her? She might want to try a hard reset of the ereader if she wants to link it to her own ADE and Sony accounts. See this link for instructions. A hard reset will basically restore the 700 to factory defaults and will erase all content (like when it was new out-of-the-box). Then she can register it to her own accounts.

EDIT: Looks like SeaBookGuy and I had the same thought at the same time!

I've asked her to post her stuff.
Only thing authorized to my ADE that I can see is my computer. I'd rather she not loose the content since I no longer have it. Is there an easy way to see something other than a computer authorized to ADE?

Or alternate software of that quality?

And If she could get the sony store installed, I'd just give her the account, no biggie, mom and all Or I could call Sony to have it removed.

What kind of content is it? Purchased books with DRM? For example, did you buy the books at the Sony bookstore or some place similar? If they are Sony books, then she will want to register her computer in the Sony software to your Sony account (if you want her to be able to read your old books). You can have up to six computers registered to the same Sony account.

If the reader is registered to your old account, she needs to get her PC authorized and registered to the SAME account, BEFORE she purchases any more books, because dealing with books with multiple DRM keys is a nightmare.

She must have a different DRM registration key on the PC and PRS-700 now, or she would be able to send the books she is downloading to the reader and read them.

Since the new books have a different DRM key, to get these new books to read on the PRS-700, she would have to reset and re-authorize the device with the new key on her PC, but then she would loose the book that are now on the reader.

A MUCH BETTER IDEA, WOULD BE TO RE-AUTHORIZE HER PC SO IT IS ALSO USING YOUR ORIGINAL ACCOUNT REGISTRATION, and then buy and download books registered to that account.

That way everything will match up.

Hopefully you can change the credit card billing info etc to transfer the account to her.

The only other alternative is to get the PRS-700 back temporarily, drag the books back off the reader into a folder on your PC and use a DRM stripping script to to make them universally readable, then drag them back onto her PRS-700 after she resets and re-authorizes the device.
