Elonex 700eb quick review

hi all

i broke my sony 650 just before xmas and was without a device until i came across the elonex 700eb.
this is a 7" colour lcd screen with epub/pdf/txt supported also plays video and music.
it was only £80 so i thought i would get it until i could sort out a new 650 with my insurance.
anyway the elonex turned up and i have been using it for a 2 weeks now and i love it.

the lcd screen could be a little tireing on the eyes but i just turn the brightness down at night and its fine. reads in portrait and landscape with various font size settings and a zoom facility.

the video play back is fantastic,a nice clean crisp image with the ability to resume playback when device is switched off or video is stopped to read a book.

the audio is perfectly fine (it comes with earphones but they are not the best) and you have various options for sorting album/artist/genre etc.
the audio can also be played whilst reading and stopped at anytime by simply pressing the play/pause button.

it has a 2GB internal memory with a sd expansion slot up to 16GB.
the battery life is pretty good i watched two movies and read a book without having to charge up inbetween, obviously not as good an eink device but perfectly adequate for most people.

i really enjoy using the elonex and will probably not get another 650 as i really like the video option when i dont want to read without having to carry another device with me.

here it the link to the elonex site -

cheers,mick.

Hi Mick,

Thanks for the quick review. I'm interested in using these for technical pdf's would you be kind to load us a few like http://bit.ly/enHv4S and maybe some pics to see how they render. A lot of folks - especially students will be after something like this for technical/academic journal reading and will really appreciate it.

Thanks!

hi ,i tried the docs in the link and they did display.
"as-is" the text is in 2 columns and is too small to read but enlarging by the next font size up displayed it easily and in one column as well as all the drawings/diagrams in the doc.
page turns were a little slower than normal by about 1-2 seconds.

i thought they rendered ok but you may feel different.

no pics unfortunatley my dongle speed is crap.

hope this helps cheers , mick.
