Question transfering Calibre to new computer

My old computer was dying. So rather than wait we bought me a new one (hubby said not to expect a valentine, mother's day or birthday gift, LOL).

It's a HP pavilion, if that helps. I have a Sony 900. On my old computer is my calibre with my books, also had been trying to put books from diesel (one epub and two adobe) that Calibre said problems, something about ascm (?).

Anyhow, can I transfer Calibre to my new computer?

Will I lose anything, do I need to just cut my losses (most books are freebies, so I can find and download them again from here and other sites) and redownload Calibre?

I had downloaded the books I bought and tried to redownload them but keep getting told they are already downloaded.
With the new computer can I re-download them, fix the problem and be able to put them in Calibre? If I lose them no big deal, I bought some cheap ones to try out (total of $7).

(How many times can you say download )

I am the village idiot about computers. I am constantly hitting a button (and never know which one) and doing something and then making more of a mess when I try to fix it. My son says he is going to start charging me for all the times he has come to fix the problem (usally with just clicking on ONE button!)

Hubby is taking my computers to work so the expert there can do the switching. I also bought a backup system (FreeAgent Go Flex 500 usb 2.0 plug and play, whatever that is).

I can't afford to lose all of my work; all of my papers and such from my master's classes are on my old computer. Two years of work and my master's thesis I am working on. Not counting personal stuff, pictures and such.

Any help will be appreciated.
