while not a huge surprise, the poor Alex was born under bad signs. Still I like that it offered a PDA type LCD screen with the 6" E-ink brand upper screen. Basically it could have been a Pocket Edge all-in-one type device only with a smaller color panel.

I think they just missed the timing and wasn't there a legal dust-up with the Nook? I forget.

Oh, well, it won't be lonely over the next 18-months as lots of devices are not gonna pass the user "smoke test" and will just go *poof*.

Yep. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing (many of us overpaid for these things). What's bad is that the price didn't drop.

yeah, no way it was worth the $400 in today's market. I still think the dust-up over the deal with the Nook really hurt the image and potential for the Alex. To me it was a nive convergence type design. A shame they weren't either well run or far under capitalized to sustain their product. Without knowing much about their software maybe they can salvage that sort of like the folks at Kno are doing, which I think is a very smart move, as there is just no good software which addresses reading management, study/research or other aspects of using these devices as learning tools. That is one reason I so will jump on one of the Win 7 slates soon as the dust settles.

But I really did think the Alex was a device with far more potential than the Nook and it's 1" strip screen.
