Looks like we will be waiting awhile

Well it's been about a week and still we haven't seen the next autonooter for 1.1.

There a file listed at:
http://www.nookdevs.com/NookColor_1....em_Differences

Since I haven't a clue as to what I'm looking at I'm assuming that there must be quite a difference from the previous version. It must be quite a challenge to overcome whatever differences B&N put in the way of making this happen.

Makes me wonder if B&N is trying to keep the Nook from being rooted, or they really don't care one way or the other.

Anyway just some ramblings while I'm waiting.

I don't think they're trying to stop anything. You can manually root using nooter0.2 (as I confirmed). That would be enough for you to sideload apps and gain Superuser access. Getting Market to work would require more work, but it can (and has) been done.

I have 1.1 on my NC. You just need to root to 1.0.1 first and then sideload the pre-rooted update. In fact, it just keeps getting easier, not harder.

Yeah I was reading what you did. But it does require a bit of work as you say.

I don't want to do the clockwork thing either, at this point.

I just found it interesting that this autonooter is taking some time. I wonder what was done that might be creating a stumbleblock?

Seth, I think you may be looking at this backwards. The developments (other than auto-nooter) have progressed far enough now to where the auto-nooter is not as critical as it once was, so I would imagine that its development has moved substancially down the priority list in light of all the other options.

I was pondering the same thing. For 1.0.1, autonooter was released practically within a few hours of the update. It's also interesting that "Read in Store" access is now available on rooted devices for those who updated to 1.1. Lots of stuff going on.

It seems like improvements are happening every day. In fact, with all the Run-from-SD ROMS coming out, it's almost tempting to revert back to the B&N stock ROM and run from SD.

Could it be that there will be no more autonooters with the pre-root update method available? I wonder if you can do a pre-root update on top of a previous pre-root update should another update be pushed out?

I haven't followed these developments with interest, so pardon my ignorance. Do you use one SD card for everything (OS, apps and data)? Can you access the stock features with the SD card in?

I could be. The auto-nooter was simple for 1.01. However if things have moved passed that I'll have to go for something else. Maybe if there's nothing in the next few days, I'll try something else.

I guess what I'd like to see is a list of ways to go for Dummies!

There are so many developers working on different things that it's hard to keep up. For your first question, yes, OS/apps/data are on the "external" SD card. For your second question, I believe right now that's a yes, no, or maybe depending on the ROM version.

Also, devs are working on re-flashing the B&N eMMC ("internal" SD) to run Froyo, Gingerbread, or Honeycomb. In that case, I don't know how much of the original B&N features will still be incorporated.

Looks like autonooter has just been updated!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=1282

When you are in Clockwork Recovery, select the option to install a .zip from the SDCARD
I think the reason it took so long is that the original dev of autonooter has been AWOL
So someone else did it ...

If you are already rooted on 1.0.1, I suggest you actually leave your installation, download the clockwork that runs from an SD card here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922870 and then use the rooted 1.1 sideload here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932145

When booted into Clockwork, you select "install zip from sdcard" .. and then you can select the 1.1 zip card.

This method will leave you programs and data you already installed intact; and won't modify your NC by installing clockwork to it (if you are wanting to avoid that).

As a side note, I think that B&N are actually cool with us nuetering our nooks! I think that the fact the In-Store features work on a rooted 1.1 NC illustrate that B&N is resigned to the fact that the NC will be rooted. In fact, the way the NC was built ALLOWED it to be rooted very easily. B&N didn't have to build it that way (no one else builds android devices that boot off the SD card that I'm aware of.
