The Kama Sutra
![]() I've put together an edition of The Kama Sutra. It's illustrated, and has all the contents and footnotes linked and working. A lot of work has gone into the formatting and layout. The epub version has embedded fonts. If Amazon's file format supported fonts, I'd do it there as well, but it turns out that Amazon's notion of file-formatting is quite retarded compared to epub. Because of the level of formatting involved and the file size, the Epub version can't go through Smashwords. The Kindle version was turned down by Amazon, because, they said, of the 'hardcore' (their word) content. That's ridiculous, considering the spurious and tasteless nature of some of the sex-related titles that are available in the Kindle store. But it's their call. As a result, the only place this edition of the Kama Sutra is currently available is here (dminoz.com) There are links to free sample downloads in both Epub and Kindle formats. The samples contain about half the content of the complete book. I have the files set up on box.net. If anyone has any problems downloading them, please let me know. Warning: contains explicit (but in-context and appropriate) imagery. Totally NSFW (depending on where you work, of course.) Here's the blurb: An ancient Sanskrit text on the art of love and sexual technique, the Kama Sutra has been a source of inspiration for countless lovers (well, ok, and just straight out fornicators) over many centuries. Originally a compilation of material from other ancient texts, some of which are now lost, the Kama Sutra was first put together by an individual known as Mallanga Vatsyayana. It is not known when he did this; Sir Richard Burton, the translator of the text on which this version is based, estimates that Vatsyayana lived some time between 100 AD and 600 AD. This edition has been re-edited where it seemed as though the language could be made to flow more smoothly for the modern reader. In addition, illustrations and quotes from various sources have been interspersed with Burton's translation. The end result, it is hoped, is a sexually explicit and thought-provoking rendition of the Kama Sutra which does justice to the timelessness and universality of its subject matter. An appendix of sexual positions has been added. Most of them are physically possible. Some, well... TECHNICAL NOTE: This epub version of the Kama Sutra has been proofed in Sigil and on a Sony PRS-650 Reader. If you are going to be reading this title on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, do not waste your time using Stanza. Stanza is thoroughly retarded when it comes to file formatting, and will happily ignore most of the work on formatting that has gone into producing this file. Instead, use the very excellent and free Bluefire Reader (bluefirereader.com), which respects formatting, including embedded fonts, like no other epub reader. THE KAMA SUTRA |
