Another Hello

Bought myself a Sony PRS 350 at Christmas and I'm into a steep learning curve.

I'm an avid reader but after an accident find standing a problem.
This extends to standing looking for books in my local Public Library so bringing the books to me seemed to be the answer.

After reading that some public libraries have ebooks I wrote to the head librarian of the County Council, explained my problem and asked if they had any plans to expand their services by offering ebooks. I suggested that it might save money and that I was willing to pay for the service.

The reply suggested that I use the mobile library service!

So here I am looking for information and will be reading through the forums and eventually asking questions about the things I don't understand.

This is a great place to ask for help and find information. Have you discovered the sticky threads at the top of the Sony forum? There is a great informational one called "Sony Reader Info, Start-Up & Reset Guide" that links to the MR wiki. It has a section all about borrowing books for your reader (Borrowing library books).

You can also read about ADE (Adobe Digital Editions), acsm, DRM (Digital Rights Management), and different E-book formats in the wiki.

Have fun exploring and just ask if you have any questions.

Good to have your new company, Gillian. Hope you soon find a fix for the library problem. I do know that the Philadelphia Free Library (not exactly free because there's a membership charge) is open to non-residents. At least when you've got it cracked, you'll be able to read the books on your Sony whereas Kindlers can't without first (illegally) stripping the DRM software padlock. Good luck and best wishes. Thank you to all who've welcomed me and I'm progressing with my 'education' albeit at a slow pace.
I've downloaded Calibre and I'm using it in preference to the Sony library with which I had problems. The nuisance now is I can't seem to prevent it opening when I don't want it.

By the way I'm 76 so not learning at the rate of some of you!

Now back to scanning (and learning from) the forums.
