Libre color ebook reader

Aluratek's site notes that they now have a color Libre

Memory has increased to 2GB.
Mentions support for wma and numerous video formats
no mention of wifi capability

Screen is 7 inch TFT.

Strangely does not mention ability to read DRM ebooks. I hope that is not an oversight. Also seems to have a clock now.

Even at $150 don't know how this would fare against the other ebook readers out there most of which have wifi now

It sounds like one of the many backlit LCD 7" tablets available or announced for this
Christmas season, not really an "ebook reader" just a "Media Tablet/Pad".

That said, this one seems very well setup as an ereader that could do a much better
job with .pdf and magazines and could be great for manuals. (It might be a good choice
until there is a shake out and an <$200 10" color ereader/tablet.)

From the Aluratek site go to their "FAQ" page and to the item announcing this reader.
There are some links to an "HSN" sales promotion for it at $149 with some book and
music download credit included. There is also a video showing it working. Check out
the video and the specs.

Luck;
Ken

I watched the video, and it does look backlit to me. If I didn't already have a Libre I'd be highly tempted to get it, even with no wifi.

As far as DRM, I emailed Aluratek because the "Adobe Digital Editions DRM" verbiage isn't on the product page as it is for their other readers.
http://aluratek.com/libre-color-ebook-reader-white

EDIT: response from email received - it does support DRM epubs and pdfs.

One thing I didn't see anywhere was battery life. Any idea? Anyone?

Boasting superior battery life you can read up to 24hrs continuous use with an auto off feature if you just happen to fall asleep. Try the LIBRE | Color eBook Reader by Aluratek and experience why the future of books has gone digital.

With the backlit LCD screen you can read at night or in low light while still enjoying a preserved battery life of up to 8hrs on a single charge.

I just looked at the Dell site and it's still out of stock--but the price has now jumped to $249.99!

249 is way to expensive considering the rather impressive choice of readers we have now compared to the exact time of last year. However at 99 $ that was worth considering based on the color feature and 7 ''. Battery life is so-so.

Yes, if I were going to spend $249, I'd go for the Nook Color and the wi-fi access.

I bought one from Dell for $99. (While it said out of stock, you could still buy it at that price and wait for deliver, which they said was January 2011.)

To my surprise, it was delivered yesterday. Haven't had time to do anything except plug it in to charge, but I'll let you know what I think when it's set-up.

I did note that it comes with the same 100 free books that my kobo did. yawn. It's quite a bit heavier than the kobo (relatively speaking).

I got it today . Looks very OK to me. Simple and stylish . I only had time to charge and transfer some PDF's. Can you please do a battery test ?

I played with it , while music was on and looked at the battery level. I got less than 6 hours remaining. That is not that great. I am gonna play some more to see. I am also gonna call them about the battery. It is supposed to last 10 hrs. And 20 in standby. Thanks

I posted this a few days ago based on what was on their site.

I called the company today and asked if the battery is supposed to last as I noticed on the unit only less than 6 hours.

The tech person said that depends; on video more or less 3-4 hours
On books - he said around 8 hours much or less,

I said that this is far from the 24 hours posted on the web. He said that that does not apply and the site should be updated.
So I am puzzled about battery life.

If it turns out that it is not what has been advertised, this baby goes back.
