Don't see a lot of "new subject" posts (myself included) - could it be that we're back to the simple pleasure of reading now that the frenzy of rooting is over?

Honeycomb? You mean Froyo. Unless you mean via some other means and not B&N update.

When these updates come out how are you notified and how do you update your nook.

the updates are pushed out to your device within a few days after they come out. There is nothing you need to do. The nook will tell you it has been updated.
