Amazon's new commercial bad for Kindles

The new commercial for the K3 is a really bad commercial. It shows the K3 being used in a variety of situations with no cover at all. And it ends by showing someone sticking a naked K3 in a back pocket. So there goes the k3 when it's squashed or sat on.

Amazon should be showing the K3 with a cover and never ever should they show a K3 in any sort of pocket. Pocket's are bad. Going without a cover is bad. Amazon showing it's OK to have no cover and put the K3 in a back pocket is bad.

Amazon is giving bad advice through this commercial.

And it's not just the K3. No eink device should be without a cover or put in a pocket.

Nah, they want people to sit on it, so they break it and run the chance of having to buy a new one... besides, it is just advertising, don't take it so serious!

Yeah. Thats not really something you want to advocate. I know its an advert and everything but still not to be encouraged. People shatter and crack the glass on touchscreen phones by putting them into their pockets and they're significantly tougher than the Kindle.

Who has a back pocket big enough for a Kindle anyway?!?

Not to mention that it makes bad business sense in potential replacement costs.

What really bothers me about the commercial is the Cheerios that fly onto the Kindle's screen from nowhere. The thought of bringing a Kindle to a food fight or any messy kitchen situation troubles me more than it should.

I was partial to the commercial with the girl by the pool; her Kindle was uncovered as well.

I would never even think about putting my Kindle in my back pocket. I've done that with paperback books, though.

eh.

Okay - I actually just tried it and my Kindle won't fit in my back pocket.
Maybe its because I wear Mom jeans.

I've carried my sony, kindle, and now nook that way for years now.

I carried my Sony in a case for the first year and dropped it four times. Since I started carrying the readers in my back pocket I've not dropped once.

I'm glad I'm not alone!

Watching the casual way the actors hold and toss the Kindle around kind of sends a shock down my spine. I can't ever picture myself tossing my Kindle into a drawer without the cover on. Unless it was a sock drawer or something with absolutely no hard objects.

The part of the commercial I think they did well was actually showing the screen this time around. In that sense, it's much better than those stop-motion commercials where you only got to see the back of the Kindle, and never got to see it in use.

All in all, I think these commercials are better, and it's understandable that they wouldn't want to show the Kindle with an optional accessory (to avoid people thinking that the Kindle comes with it), but they really need to cut the scenes tossing it into a drawer, into a back pocket, or having Cheerios hurled at it.

I agree. It's as if they are trying to emphasize how durable it is - which is not one of it's qualities.

You people are a tough audience. I did have to wipe teriyaki spatter, just a drop, off of mine.

They might be trying to differentiate it from the iPad, I do think it's more durable than that, but they're showcasing some behavior which I think is pretty foolhardy, at best.

I had a few drops of something go onto my Kindle keyboard. It turned out to be pretty easy to wipe off, but I would've been worried if it was water or some other thin liquid.

In other Kindle commercials, they show people sitting on the beach reading. That's fine. But the current commercials make me think that the next one is going to have someone walking in the rain reading one (without a protective cover).

I'm glad you posted them, it was fun to watch while reading both these threads.

Maybe the Kindle is more durable than we all think and we're just being neurotic?
