PRS-505 Removing pictures

Everytime I put a book on my Sony 505 reader the cover is also put on BUT when I remove the book the picture of the cover remains. I need help before all my memory is filled with pictures!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I, too, have noticed this, but haven't explored how to fix it.

Ideas for this anyone?

There has been mention of thumbnails not being deleted starting here.

I'm not sure if I just deleted the thumbnails that I didn't want or just deleted the file mentioned and it was regenerated when my reader was reconnected to the Reader Library. I would backup the file just in case my memory failed me. I only use the Reader Library and ADE for my ebooks. I'm not sure of any ramifications if using Calibre.

I had just ignored the extra pics and never really thought too much about it until I saw the OP's post.

FYI, does this help?

Some previous versions of Calibre automatically sent thumbnails to all Sony models. This was stopped a few versions ago when the developers realised that the older Sony models could not use them. It is now an option (2 actually) which you can switch on if you want to.

To stop thumbnails being copied in future,

Update to a fairly recent version of Calibre, v0.7.42 onward should be OK (maybe slightly earlier versions too but I'm not sure how far back)
Go into Preferences - Plugins - Device Interface - Sony - Customize and make sure that the following 2 checkboxes are UNCHECKED:
- Upload separate cover thumbnails...
- Refresh separate covers...

If there are already book thumbnails on the reader then you would also need to delete them manually from [Drive:]/database/thumbnail/database/media/books/

A second possibility:

If the unwanted book covers on the Sony are full-size, not thumbnails, the reason may be that you are using Save to Disk rather than Send to Device to transfer your books from Calibre.
If you are using Save to Disk go into Preferences - Saving books to disk and make sure that the checkbox Save cover separately (top left) is UNCHECKED.

Again, you would need to manually delete the unwanted full-size covers which are already on the Sony.

Thanks for all the advice re removing the pictures from my Sony 505, especially Jackie_W. I did manage to change my settings so hopefully no more pics will go on the reader and I was able to remove the thumbnail pics but I still have the full-size pictures that I can't figure how to manually remove them. It's getting better but I'm still not there!

If the full-size covers got transferred durring a Save to Disk then they probably got copied to the same directory as their matching book.

In Internal Memory, books are normally stored somewhere beneath the [Drive:]/database/media/books/ directory. Exactly where will depend on the Save Template you used for Save to Disk.

On an SD card, I can't remember exactly which directory is used because I don't store books on an SD card. It won't be difficult to find out if this is where your problem lies.

I think I will finish the ebook I'm currently reading and then delete all the books on my reader. Maybe then I can get rid of those covers. I use Calibre so there's no problem putting my books back on and using send to device. I may have used, and probably did use, save to disk. Don't really remember. Thanks, Jackie_w.
