Border's Coupons/Promotion codes

The promo codes Border's send in their emails for 33% off various merchandise can now be used for selected ebooks. I just tried a non-agency book that wasn't already discounted and it worked.

True, but keep in mind Borders counts % off MSRP, where Kobo and others count the coupon off their discounted price.

Most of their non-agency books are discounted already (like everyone else), many of these well in excess of 33%. If the store's default discount exceeds the coupon, you get the default discount and nothing more.

If, for example, the book is MSRP $9 sold at $7 (22% off) and you use a 33% coupon, your cost will be $6 (33% off 9) not $4.70 (33% off 7).

If the same book was sold at $5.50, the coupon would be rejected -- they're already giving you a higher discount.

you can still find bargains here, but they can be harder to find.

If you try to use a coupon in store (or their teacher/professional discount of 20%) on something already on sale, they will often give you the discount asked for (off list), instead of the current discount. Resulting in paying MORE than the price already stickered. I often have to divide my checkout into two piles, as a result.

Thanks for the information. I got that coupon in e-mail today and never read the fine print--I just assumed e-books were excluded.

At one time all ebooks were excluded. They must have changed it somewhat recently.

The details section will have in bold print whether discount and rewards can be applied. Just as Dan said it only works if the ebook isn't already discounted by that amount.

Kobo's discount promos haven't been as generous lately. Plus, my credit card issuer charges me currency exchange fees for Kobo purchases.
